In 2006 Federer surpassed Borg's 41-match grass court winning streak. In 2007, Federer took the streak to 54 consecutive matches by defeating Nadal in the Wimbledon final.

Fed arrives in Halle on Tuesday around lunchtime. Michael Berrer is first up.
Can he win Halle and take the total to 59? I think so, which means #60 will come in the first round at Wimbledon.

But Borg did not participate in anything but Wimbledon. He still holds the record there, and Federer will tie it by reaching the final, which of course is not a foregone conclusion this year.

Fed could have ruined this record a couple of times in Halle, against Söderling in 2005, and Rochus 2006.

Anyway, it is still a great achievement.

We'll never know if Borgs streak would've been longer or shorter had he played a warmup event.

Yeah Fed has had some close calls at Halle. rochus had a couple of match points didn't he? three tie-breaks if I remember.

Federer was coming off a grueling FO in some of those matches.I am glad he is playing Halle this year.A warmup could never hurt.

And the streak continues to 55 - never in doubt!
