Came across this picture of Thomas Muster and wondered do men still wear jock straps in tennis? I haven't worn one since high school football.http://www.geocities.com/futbolistas4/muster/thomas_muster2.jpg

Muster's ungodly package cannot be contained in simple underwear.

Completely agree
FWIW Jock brief (combines jock + old fashion tidy whites) or jock boxers (kind like compression shorts) Don't like the boys flying around when I'm playing.
Its all personal pref.

In the 70's and 80's jocks were your only choice. Also wore them swimming with our Birdwell Beach Britches(dbl layer nylon).
I wish someone would make polyester jocks.
Nadal might not have to dig so much if he had them under his clam-diggers.

To the naysayers: what's wrong with wearing a jock? Seems like it's a fashion show in here.

I never understood jock straps. I don't see what it provides that a nice pair of boxer briefs doesn't. I understand a jock strap to hold a cup, but I never understood the purpose of a plain jock strap.

For me, I don't like all that extra fabric of a boxer brief. It tends to bunch up, cause chafing, etc. The jockstrap offers the support I need and nothing else, which keeps me cooler, too.

I think some of you are confusing a jock strap (aka "athletic supporter") with a CUP. There is no reason to wear a cup in tennis, but I don't like playing tennis without wearing an athletic supporter. I don't like my stuff bouncing around, and briefs don't work nearly as well.

What's more disturbing about that picture is not that Muster is wearing a jockstrap...but that he showed it off on the court.

my hockey jock is cheaper than that. something i'm thankful for because, truly they could charge anything they wanted and i would pay it for that vital piece of protection.

You know why you can't be an A's fan and a Giants fan?

I think Muster fell and ripped his shorts.
Nastase changed on court once for the same reason.

I wear panties on my head, with the crotch portion positioned just right :-) So I have openings at both eyes. I become PANTIE MAN! Watch out suckas!

some shorts have an inbuilt elastic underpant-type thing which seems to serve the same purpose as compression shorts.

Always wear compression shorts. No need for the jock.
