Unfortunately, grass courts are hard to come by in the US.

Thoes are some slippery shoes, have you not seen all of the adidas pros tripping on the grass in their matches?

I haven't seen Safin slipping in them, nor that many people in the past couple of years.

The Nike players are slipping just as much.

Also in other parts of the match Stepanak was falling with his Nikes.

There are very clear rules for the Grass court shoes unless the rules have recently changed.

"a. Grass Court Shoes

At Grass court tournaments no grass court shoes other than those with rubber soles, without heels, ribs, studs or coverings shall be worn by players.

Special Grass court shoes will not be used without the express approval of the ITF; such shoes will not be approved unless they comply with the following specifications:

The pimples or studs on the base of the sole shall have the maximum top diameter of three (3) millimetres and a minimum top diameter of two (2) milimetres. The maximum height of the pimples or studs shall be two (2) millimetres with a maximum of 10 degrees angle slope between the base and the top of the pimple. The durometres shall be between 58 and 63 based on a shore "A" scale. The pimple top diameter compared to its respective pimple density per square inch shall be within the following guidelines:

Pimple Top Diameter________________Pimple-Density Per Square Inch

Shoes with pimples or studs around the outside of the toes shall not be permitted. The foxing around the toes must be smooth.

Players desiring approval of special grass court shoes should submit a sample in advance to the ITF."

While Safin in his Adidas Barricade Grass court shoes did not slip at all. Go figure.

My fooot work pattern on grass cannot be as reckless as on other surfaces, I'm sure the physics of it holds true at all levels.
The ITF is reviewing a new sole pattern for the London Olympics which should be better for the grass and players and will be available to all shoe companies. Asics made my all time favorite grass court shoe, which is long out of production.
