For all the people who string their own rackets, how long does it take you and do you do anything to help pass time (watching tv etc.)?

watching tv would only break your concentration and make you take longer to string. Music, however, wouldn't hurt too much.

Depends upon how you calculate time

If you just are counting time on the stringer 30-35 min (full poly) 20-25 min synthetic

IF you count total time : cutting out string, removing old icky overgrip, inspecting racquet (don't like them exploding in the stringer because I didn't see the crack little Johnny caused when he did his best safin imitation) , measuring the string off the reel etc.. then you're looking at an average of 35 min

If I have to replace the grommet strips add 10-15 minutes depending on the racquet

Usually have the radio on but never the TV too distratcting

I'm using a Prince/Neos 1000 with a Wise 2086 tension head

For me, the whole thing takes like an hour and a half. I'm on a slow dropweight and need more practice however. Only done about 8 sticks.

Curse you, ahah, jk.

Is that 45 mins just stringing the racquet itself, or including everything? Plus, I need to do more consecutive stringings, not spread apart so much.

12-15 min on a neos

OK
Lets see you do a Prestige Mid CAP system with Lux alu rough in that time.

You have to cut out the strings of the frame. Take the string off the reel. Do it in 1 piece stringing the crosses from head to throat (ATW), put pads in middle six mains at the throat and shoulders, remove old sticker, put on a new sticker, stencil, then bag it.

So you should be able to do at least four of these in an hour!

Cheers!

dont forget driving home, oh yeah and get gas before driving. dont forget you have to eat before stringing your racquets. and after you string you have to actually use the racquet and then the strings will go dead again so then you will have to string it again.

yeah try doing that in 15 min

but seriously, the OP said to string "your own racquet" so for me, its poly mains and syn gut crosses on an open string pattern mid sized frame. i dont bother tagging or stenciling my frames. yeah it takes 15 min

oh and by the way, if you can run a 6 min mile, it doesnt mean you can run 10 miles in a hour.

You have to understand where vsgut is coming from. If you say that you can do a racquet in 15 minutes, that means that you should be able to do 8 in two hours, or even better than that, 32 in 8. When you string for real, it's the average that matters, and when you count all of the prep and taking a breath or two, the best of the best average more than twenty minutes. So, you squirt'n one out in 13-15 minutes is impressive, but it won't get you anywhere in a pro stringing room.

i understand what you mean but stringing my own racquets (2) i can get them done 15 min average. when i string other peoples racquets i take much longer because im not familiar with the racquet or string

from cutting out the strings to taking it off the machine after straightening the strings, it takes me about 22-24 minutes
