I am about to order a new AG100 (90 sq. in. head). I played with it as a TW demo, and I loved it--great feel, spin, power, control, and serves IMO.

The manufacturer's recommended tension range is 55-65. The demo felt quite good in spite of fairly dull strings, (I don't know what tension it was strung. Anyone know what TW does in their demos?).

I want to get it right the first time, so I am wondering if you have an AG100--what tension do you like?

(I am an all-court player with one-handed FH and BH. In my present racquet with a recommended tension of 53-63, I like poly hybrids at 58-59 average--bit on the crisp side.)

I am thinking about getting a full-bed of Big Banger Ace 18 or a hybrid with BB Original as the mains.

57/55 would be perfect. Hybrid would be recommended. anyway, is AG100 more powerful than AG200 ?

I have a pair. I like them with gut mains at 54 and poly (hurricane) crosses at 50.

Is AG100 more powerful than AG200 ?

I have not tried the AG200, so I cannot comment.

(But I can say that the AG100 is way more powerful and spin-friendly than my 18 X 20 Wilson. AG200 is 18 X 20.)

Wow! The rec range is 55-65.

How's the control down there?

Me too, and I imagine it still has plenty of pop. Right?

Hmmmm, maybe I should. . .

Yeah, man. Plenty of power. More power than a Babolat PS Ltd or a Prestige mid. Less power, I think, than a Pure Storm Tour or a k95.

If it were me with a new racquet

I always start in the middle with my "favorite" string or a string I know really well (Sensation, Reaction are 2 strings I'm really familar with and like) to get a good feel for the racquet.

Then once I've got a feel for how it plays at mid tension I'll put in the more expensive hybrid I usually play with and adjust tension accordingly.

The AG100 I hit with was strung with Wilson Super Spin at 60 and I really liked how the racquet played. I usually play with gut mains & poly crosses so were I to set the AG100 up for me I'd go 60lbs mains 57 or 58 on the crosses.

Interesting that you should mention these: I am also demoing a PST and a K90--so far I like the AG100 the most. The PST seems very solid but not as precise by comparison; the AG100 is a scalpel!! The K90 is very "old school" and a bit club-like.

(I was also thinking of trying the PS Ltd. but I want max spin.)

I think you will be surprised by the grip but I think 64 is good

hoodjem

^^^ 64 lbs.?

The demo is I think at 62 which seems okay, but a little too tight for my liking. Plus, I like thin gauge hybrid strings.

well, once you have it at 64 it goes down to the 50s the next couple of days

Hmmmm....it just so happens that I have a AG100 demo on the way, along with 3 other frames.

Truthfully, I just got back from regionals, and after 2+hours, I was looking for something lighter than 12.7 ounces to swing. The AG100 caught my eye as a little lighter and 16X19 always feels friendly.

I hope I like it....

i hear that.. i been swinging a K90 and after two hours i'm kaput.. i just ordered an AG100 from TW (to be strung at 59). Hopefully it'll be easier on my arm..

You will. That's the same reason I left behind my PS 85--arm was kaput after a couple of hours.

K90 feels very similar to PS 85.

I really like the AG100: lots of feedback, a laser-guided scalpel, and a surprisingly big sweetspot for a 90 sq. in.

Yea, and I forgot to mention the best aspect--it serves like a monster.

I now know what they mean by "crushing the ball" on the serve. (Never had experienced this before.)

How are they on strings?

What string/tension set up are you using?

Probably due to the open pattern, I am going through strings faster with this frame as compared to the Pure Storm Ltd and the ag200.

But not as fast as I went through strings with the HEAD MicroGel Prestige Pro or with the old Volkl c10 pro.

BTW, I use gut mains and poly crosses.

54 on the mains,
50 on the crosses.

Love it. I've come down gradually. From about 1994 until 2004, I was a multifilament guy at 68/65.

I understand. I string mine at 54 straight with poly, 57 - 58 with natural gut.

If I like this frame and 'seal the deal', I'm hoping that I can install gut both ways or at a minimum in the mains.

Oh yeah, and it's due to arrive TODAY.

On my Wilson nPS 95 I strung at 57/60. My fave hybrid was CF mains at 57 and Sensation crosses at 60

Should I lower the tension a little when moving to a smaller head size? Say 58/54?

I have four AG100's (bought in 2007). They perform better with looser tension. If you string them above 60, they start to feel too stiff.

So Bud,

If 60 is too high (I am inclined to agree--the demo is strung at 62, I believe), what tension(s) do you use on your Ag100s?

I received the demo yesterday and got a chance to hit for a couple of hours with it. It was strung with the Dunlop M-Fil Tour 16 which tells me it probably was pre-strung. If that's the case, I would suspect it was strung at 60 pounds.

I prefer a looser string tension in the C10, but this frame was great at 60. It has a solid sound and feel when you hit the ball. This frame really reminds me of the old wood frames I grew up with.

Unfortunately, the string that came in the frame was pretty much worn out when I got it and broke toward the end. I have restrung the demo (YW TW) with a multi at 58 and will play with it today and twice tomorrow.

hoodjem
07-26-2008, 06:33 AM
Yep, my demo is also strung with Dunlop M-Fil Tour 16 also. So maybe at 60.?

Feels OK, not too hard, but IMO it could certainly have more feel and touch with better strings at lower tension.

Totally agree!! And allows amazing serves.

Let us know about 58?

Rabbit

I'll do it. The best word to describe this frame's interaction with the ball is 'cupping'. It's almost as if you can fell the string bed cup the ball. It's fantastic so far...

I'm going to try a hybrid job on one of Babolat NG 15L at 45# and some soft poly 18 gauge at 50# (M/C).

Pulled the trigger on a new AG100 this morning.

Got Lux BB Ace 18 Touch hybrid: BB Ace 1.12 mains at 54, and Supersense 16L crosses at 57.

Sharpening up my scalpel!

Mine are coming unstrung as is the custom of the household. When they arrive, I'm going to string them with Pacific PMX at 60. Once I determine optimal gauge and tension, then they will be strung with gut. TBD if it's a gut hybrid or all gut but right now I'm leaning toward all gut.

The AG100 is a helluva racquet!!

TW should offer a special modded up version for $160 with leather grip and some amount of lead tape at 3 and 9.
