I would like to a survey of the methods people use to download the videos from online tennis websites. Currently I use real player but I find it troublesome because I have to convert it to avi format before my mini DVD player can play it.

Are you asking about video players used or DL methods?
The video players that I normally use are: QuickTime, FLV Player, Windows Media Player, and Google Video Player. As for DLs from YouTube, I use VideoDownLoader (http://VideoDownLoader.net). This requires you to use FLV Player for playback.

Which sites are you referring to? There is site called www.keepvid.com (http://www.keepvid.com) that will download from many site.
Just paste the url in. There are plenty of other softwares too. I use youtube-dl (http://www.arrakis.es/%7Erggi3/youtube-dl/)(a script that can be run from the command line with the URL as a param).
For converting to AVI or MOV etc pls download and use ffmpeg (it runs on all systems) and you can do large batch jobs with it. Free.
If there is any site that you are totally unable to download from use snapzpro to record the video as it plays.

I am essentially looking at downloading from this two websites.
tennisplayer.net and hi-techtechnnis
I know Real Player can download. I just find it troublesome to have to convert from FLV to AVI format for my mini dvd player. I am looking for something that can download straight to AVI format.

As i said, just download and install ffmpeg. You can in one shot convert any number of flv's to avi. That is if you don't mind using the command line.
You can also use the script i told you, and yuo can add a line to convert to avi (using ffmpeg) so when you download the conversion is done automatically. (I have added a line to extract the songs into mp3 since i download music).

With Quick Time Pro you can right click and download any video in the stroke archive on Tennisplayer.net. It's $30, an online upgrade. (That's about 35,000 stroke clips...)
