After school ended, I packed away my tennis gear and pulled out my swimming trunks. I thought it would be just a little fun thing to do every once in awhile, but it turned into some thing where I swam 4 out of the 6 days the pool was open. It turned into a habit and eventually I forgot all about tennis. About one month later, I was called up to play tennis and was shocked.. "what? tennis? but I haven't played in awhile, you guys are ALL probably better then me now". So I rejected their offer.

The next week, my friend Damian told me to go to Zina with him. (Zina Garrison Tennis Academy) After not going to Zina for over a month, by the first hour, I was physically exhausted. Their conditioning was outrageous for me since I had not ran for a long time. After that day, I said "no more tennis".

But then one day, I came across this video on youtube and somehow it inspired me to come back to tennis, which was less than a week ago.

And guess what happened?

- Court SEEMS to look so much bigger, & the ball looks TINY.
- Horrible backhand; I feel all scrunched up
- Forehand technique is gone completely. Will have to rebuild from scratch.
- Serve rhythm is way off

- And Most importantly: Footwork = HORRENDOUS.

I heard from people who took a break that your strokes would be the same but for me, that wasn't quite it..

Anyways, I am going to get back to where I was, or a little less, and try to post a video by the end of summer if not sooner.

It's always a funny feeling coming back to tennis. I've had stretches of not playing for various reasons -- usually other activities. Every time, when I came back, I was a horrible mess for a few weeks, maybe months (not that I'm usually any better than a horrible mess).

Footwork is the killer -- takes so long to readjust and learn how to move again!

for me it's not so much the footwork but the foot speed. when i take a break for several months, that's the first thing that goes. also, i usually don't have a problem with my technique on the groundstrokes even after taking a long break from tennis. but my serve gets really screwed up because my toss goes all over the place and i end up chasing the ball. sometimes, i end up hitting those horrible sidearm serves like dementieva when she's nervous. the volleys are also a major problem when coming back - like i've whiffed them totally on some occasions when i came back after a long break.

That's what exactly happened to me when I took a two week break. But I got my game back in one week somehow.

Yeah, I'd have to agree with what everyone said except for the volleys, my volleys are still clean i'd say.
