I was playing a guy who had a much higher rank than I and was a lot more experienced. IMO I had much more talent and potential, but he had been playing longer. I lost the first set miserably 6-2 but then got up 3-1, 40-15 in the second. I was so excited that I had gotten in such a lead on someone who I looked up to, and thought I could never beat. Of course I got nervous and blew the game. We held serve until a tie-break and he won the breaker 7-2. I walked away from the match treating it as a victory having played so well against this guy.
Two months later I played him in the state championships (7th-place playoff :)
and I beat him 4-6 6-3 6-2. In the sets that I won I was down 0-3 and 0-2 respectively. At 5-2 in the third, instead of sitting on the bench on the changeover, he just sat on the court with his head down. After that I never thought of him as amazing, he freakin' tanked.
