most ppl nowadays are counterpunchers.

counterpunchers are very prevalent nowadays. They usually die out and only the fast ones who have real good sense of direction and understand spin last.
I like to play an all-court style always looking to come in the net and finish a point off.
Tennis is a defensive sport looking for offensive opportunity. That's why learning the counterpuncher game-style is not all that bad, you just have to adjust eventually.

Or you could hug the baseline and cut your opponents reaction time in half. That is how I usually play and I find it useful against counterpunchers, but big hitters usually oulast this kind of style.

I'm mainly a Aggressive baseliner but if i know i can't beat them as a Aggressive baseliner then i just hit slice and topspin shots just keeping everything in play.

I have nothing against pushers, aslong as their not cocky, arrogant, self-centered, etc. If they have good sportsmanship then I'm okay with their style choice.

I think the most succesful style is a net player. It's always been whoever gets to the net has the advantage but with net game becoming less and less of a priority, it's becoming a smarter strategy to attack.

so is santoro a pusher?
santoro is what ppl call a spin doctor. there's a great thread in tips and instructions covering it but they basically vary spin, height, depth, and pace(mostly spin tho) so their opponents hit almost every shot uncomfortably and they basically cause their opponents to hit multitudes of unforced errors

aggressive baseliner who can take the ball early.
I can usually demolish the ball, I like to use angles to get my opponent off the court, and I change direction alot.

hmm...i wouldnt exactly call him a "spin doctor". a doctor who loses more than than his winning is kinda scary.
"eh doc, how many operation did you lose today?"
"nah, just 413 loses since april 22"
haha. joking but i would call him a moonballer.:)

That's ridiculous, Santoro is definitely an all-courter, though I think spin doctor's a pretty accurate description. And he uses more slices and angles than topspin lobs, though he has mastered those as well. And he comes to the net alot. Besides, one of his main tactics is drawing his opponent to the net. You can't do that with alot of moonballs. Precision is his game, though he gets overpowered alot. But he'll always end up being the one who makes the highlight reel :)
As for my style, I change alot. I use to come in behind a pretty big serve, and that was what I focused on, but I'm trying to go more for consistency and placement on my serve, and focusing on the other parts of my game. I don't really know what to call my style though. I have a pretty strong forehand that I try to dictate with, and off my backhand I mainly slice and try to confuse with sidespin and drop shots, etc. I come into net alot, but I probably shouldn't until I work on my net game more haha.

I rely on my serve and backhand...which is much more consistent and powerful than my forehand.

I saw santoro in a challenger tournament a few years ago. He was a pusher that was outlasting all 19-21 year olds with spin, and it was great to watch. He ended up losing in semis to Tsonga.

Previously S&V but lack the conditioning to play well enough to match big hitters. Now back to baseline -then finish at the net.

My style? Depends who I am playing. The most effective play for me is just forcing a short ball with a serve/ground stroke then putting it away at an angle, however that includes approaching the net and under pressure usually s+v and always s+v if I feel in the mood for it.
