Since I was 9, I've been playing with a Wilson Impact I got for my birthday and now that I'm 14 and going for my high school tennis team, do I really need a new racquet? I grew really close to the plastic wal-mart racquet, but I don't want to suck either. If you played in high school, what kind of racquet did you use?

high school tennis isn't that bad actually, its very easy, unless you go to the state tournament. Its a lot easier than USTA tournaments. The key for getting a new racquet is when you feel your game is improving rapidly, and you need a new stick to accomadate for it(ex- need more control or power). You shouldn't switch just because your playing with a few different people. Switch whenever you feel something is needed

I agree with tacobell.
I believe it's great if you can get a new racquet but it's definitely not required.
It probably will help your game as long as you get one that suits you as appose to one you get because nadal uses it.

its you not that racket that makes you a great tennis player. I would say just stick with your racket. Because if you've been playing with it this whole time, it must be still good for you. But make your decision fast cause it sucks switching rackets during the season.

It always good to have at least 2-3 racquets when involved in competion play, just in case you break a string. If money is a factor, check out Craiglist or E-bay where you may luck into getting a "high end" racquet (some sold in pairs) for a very decent price. Good luck and hope you make your high school team!

it would not hurt to get a new stick, for soo many reasons i recommended taking a look at the tw clearance section particularly:

I would reccomend buying something that is of high quality. You're probably going to end up needing it. 14 months ago, I never would have seen myself with three player's racquets, breaking strings regularly, stringing racquets, or serving over 100 mph. I'm totally judging the kind of player you are by the racquet you have and the quantity of them. Chances are if it's just occuring to you that you may need a quality racquet, you're a novice. You get what you put in to it. Work hard.

Yes. Buy a new one. WTF is a Wilson Impact?

It's a recreation racket AKA a "Walmart racket"

Look it up on Google and you'll find it.
