can anyone describe the system they use to catagorize jr. tournaments? like some tournaments same level 7 or level 6 or 8. is the higher the level the harder? or the lower the level the harder?

same if this question has been posted before. i couldn't find a straight answer on the USTA website.

As stated above, each section has different ways of categorizing their tournaments. Too bad - it would make sense if the USTA and its sections were consistent in the way these things are managed.

If you're specifically inquiring about your own section, you should post the section in this thread. Chances are somebody from your section will know the answer and respond. Barring that, you could check the junior handbook for the section and/or contact the person in charge of junior tournaments in your section (contact info should be on the section's website).

darckage and Brendan, what are your rankings in your age groups? For I am also from MA... mine's number 9 in G12's, 32 in G14's.

I've always thought the NE area tournaments have weird classifications; in the PNW we do it the same way as Texas, with three levels, only we have different names for them, ours being rookie->challenger->champs, Texas =ZAT's->champs->superchamps. We also have separate ranking categories for each classification except rookie, which has no rankings.
