If you lost to a kid 5 years younger than you when you tried hard but lost close like 7-5 but you got unlucky like double faulting or hitting into the net

I used to worry about this since I started playing later as a junior so at the beginning I was always playing against kids who were younger, but had the same skill level since I was new. Then as I started getting better and playing different people I realized that anybody who could rally with me and give me a ball to hit back over was simply someone who could help me improve my game. I could work on my own strokes and technique regardless of the age of my practice partner.
If this was a tourney, then they must be good to play up so much
Next time don't worry about get lucky or unlucky, just focus on the things you can control.

I would kind of get frustrated but not pissed because if they were able to beat me that means they practice alot and I don't, so losing to someone younger than me can be an eye opener

Pfft i lost to a kid 3 years younger than me the other week 6-0 6-0! But really i dont care as he is the top player in the county in his agegroup and the one above. However i was pretty pissed that i didnt get soem games where i had chances, but he just hit a winner passed me from anywhere on the court -_-

hitting the net or faulting is not a result of being unlucky. you f-ed up. you lost. theres no need to be embarassed or pissed just because you lost. sounds like your mental game needs some work.

I play tropicana british tours in England I regularly beat guys who are 20+ and I'm only 16 they are usually gutted :P Luckily I'm still young enough and good enough that young kids can't touch me.

The other day I lost to this 8 year old kid who was insane. He could definetely become pro if he followed tennis and kept improving. I'm probably somewhere around a 4.0 toa 3.5 and he was at exactly the same level! I was angry but I knew that this kid had taken the time and money and had started playing when he was 2, while I wasn't even playing at his age. If I played him again, I think I could beat him, part of it was the astonishment at how well this kid could play.

^^^ He's right you know, you tanked. You didn't choke, you tanked. Yes, we all know it was tight but 5-7 is a match which should have been a win, especially with double faults etc. It appears you got so into all the other garbage (how old he was, his parents on the sidelines I'm sure). Consider it a job, would you care if there was an employee of the company three or five years younger, or would you just do your job and hope you get the promotion???

one thing you'll find out very quickly in tennis, the skills of a person has nothing to do with their age, sex, or height
i run into all kinds of people on the public courts, all showing different levels of play, usually the older players have the better technique and thus making them harder to play against, but on occasion, i come across younger people who are just as good, the training or level of a person is very clear right away after hitting afew balls, but until then, you dont know whos at the other end of the court
so, if i ever got beat by a much younger player, they are gonna have to be better than my NTRP of 4.0 level,,
