View Full Version : Which wins do you prefer?

Do you like the 'cruise control'-'treeing' 1 and 2 sets where everything is going your way, seeing the ball well, holding serve easily and breaking at will.
Or do you prefer the long 3 set matches with changes in momentum, hard fought points which you eventually battle to win?
Personally I prefer the 2nd option. It feels SO GOOD when you come out the winner. Especially when you won it, rather than your opponent lose the match.
Edited to Add:
I made this poll with the assumption that you are playing someone on the same level as you.
This is why I used the phrase 'treeing'. You really aren't treeing if you are a 4.5 beating up on a 3.5. You can play average tennis and still win comfortably.
You are treeing if you are playing someone on the same level as you and you are playing out of your mind. See AO 2007 SF Fed-Roddick 2nd set for classic case of treeing.
So assume you are playing someone on the same level. Which is better, easy win or tough 3 setter?

I think nail biters are great, but its also important to be able to beat someone not as good as you, to show yourself you can do it and keep you emotions in tact.
I think i like nail biters for playing people in matches where it can go either way. I think that matches where you're much better should end that way showing you yourself who the better player is.

I find wins where you are absolutely killing your opponent kinda boring so I'd go with nail biter.

Ive had enough of epic matches. So I love the few times when I cruise through.

I like nail biters against those who are better than me.
But if a match against someone who is alot worse than me goes to 3 hard fought sets, i dont feel very good, as i shouldve thrashed them.
I like winning easy better but winning close is a better feeling.
imo, playing tight matches always brings out the best in people...but still, i like winning big. :)

close 'nail-biters' are what really advance your game, and we humans are built to either thrive or crumble under pressure... in most cases, i'll thrive... but i'll still never win... it stinks!!

Winning feels good no matter what, but nail biters are more rewarding

winning feels better when I'm in cruise control, but it gets more exciting when it's a nail biter, especially if you dont really know who will win. However, if it's someone that you know is not as good as you, and it happens to be a nail biter, I will have the urge to break my racquet in half out of frustration.

nail biters where u are really far down in games but fight back all the way and win it. the feeling is awesome

well obviously if i'm able to break someone at will and i am easily holding then i'm not improving or challenging myself so i'd rather have a hard fought match. it also shows who's mentally tougher and where i need to work on my game.

With nailbiters when playing someone of equal or near equal ability, it often comes down to mental toughness. Especially 3rd set tiebreaker. That's why I love it!

Cruise control. It reaffirms what being prepared can do for you.

Nail biter is definitely more gratifying. However, when playing someone you don't like>> it is always more satisfying to absolutely crush them.

I feel like that whenever i play a long tough match that i can take something away from it. If everything is going well then you don't know how to handle yourself in situations when it isn't going to great which, lets face it, is most of the time.

I enjoy matches where your opponent brings out everything they have on every point, but you still best them and win comfortably.

I consider losing a set to be as bad as losing the match so definitely cruising to victory is the better choice.

cruising no doubt, when i play i want to play my best, if i am playing someone of my standard then if i play my best and cruise it must mean I am playing well (or they bad).
If you have a nail biter with someone of your level then its one of 3 scenarios, you are both playing well, you are both playing normal or you are both playing bad.

I've never been in a nail bitter. I always just play kids who are 7-10 years old so I just win 6-0 6-0 6-0. It's such a great confidence booster.
