As the frontman of Soundgarden, Chris Cornell was one of the great vocalists of the 90's. Now, he's an idiot.

His upcoming album, Scream, is to be produced by Timbaland, and it's going to be... well, nasty radio-friendly R&B type pop rubbish. Some of the songs are on youtube for your listening displeasure. A particulary awful one is 'Watch Out', which sounds like everything else you hear these days, except with a dying bear trying to sing it.

I just don't get how he could do this. Surely he doesn't need the money or anything.

Discuss.

I like Chris Cornell. I loved him in Audioslave.

I don't know why he would go to Timbaland though. Surely he'd go to someone who wouldn't try to change his sound.

Sounded pretty good at Project Revolution though

Not sure why people get so upset when musicians try different things. Musicians love music, they probably listen to a much wider variety of sounds than average person, who often listen to one style of music and define themselves by that genre, making fun of everybody who listens to something else. They're artists. I would argue that a musician that doesn't put it on the line by exploring other areas of musical interests are the lame ones, like an actor who only plays one kind of character over and over and over. Sure, it might be safer economically, but is that what you want from artists?

If I could be in a band I'd love to have the kind of career U2 had. They've done so many different things and come out relatively unscathed.

I see where you are coming from, but I do not think what he is doing could be classified as experimenting or exploring. He is following a pretty well worn path here, jumping aboard the Timbaland bandwagon that so many other artists are on.

If I didn't hate the phrase so much, i'd almost say he was "selling out."

He is selling out. He needs the money for a gold plated Hummer. Or he's got some drug problem or something..
Who cares? Timbaland suck.

This is a shame, especially after You Know My Name for Casino Royale was such a tune.

Huge Cornell fan. Loved everything, Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, Audioslave, Euphoria Morning (solo), and then his last solo effort was really horrible (though thankfully not as horrible as Tom Morello's solo effort).

This is news to me about the new project, but I don't like the sound of it.

Temple Of The Dog = some of the best vocals i've heard in my life. Say Hello 2 Heaven especially.

I suggest you have a look on youtube for some of these new songs... then again, they might make you cry.
