While watching the US Open during Labor Day, it showed a brief coverage of a Junior match of a 14 year old American boy. I don't recall who said it, but it was mentioned by either Jim Courier or Tracy Austin that the boy hired an agent and they both seemed to suggest that it was a bad thing. What are your thoughts on this?

His name I think was christian harrison.I am a 15 year old player but not as good as him. What I think of this that is a good move by him more than likely he is sponsered by babolat, nike and something else I think so in my opinon might be or might not be a good idea.Anyway that is what I think.

He has an agent because his older brother is a pro, and I believe they share an agent.

A junior to an agent is just "An-out-of-the-money option", in the language of finance. The problem is that these types of options will tend to be mispriced to the downside.

Meaning, it is almost surely the case that the junior is better off to **Wait** and therefore get a better deal than to sign early.

I am sure a lot of agents will use language like 'unproven', risky etc. to negotiate terms that may haunt the player, if he makes it, forever.

As for agents signing juniors, I think it is obscene and there should be a law against it until a certain age.

Just think if a student does not make it as a pro and because they signed early, they cannot even play NCAA? how bad is that over a free racquet and eyewear?

It is not possible to have an agent and remain grounded.
It's a clear choice of one or the other.

Agents are vermin.

Staying grounded is the best choice.

There is a trend amongst tennis juniors in America:

Quite school and do workbooks at home.
Hire a coach.
Hire a serving coach.
Hire a physio.
Hire a nutritionist.
Call Nick for sponsorship.
Hire a sports shrink.
Hire an image manager.
Hire an agent.
Go pro.
Call 911

Stay in school kid. Get a degree. Be an agent. ;>
