How much time do you spend playing tennis in a week?
How much time do you spend stretching/recovering from tennis?
And how much sleep do you get a night?
What time do you fall asleep and what time do you get up?
How old are you?

I've been reading about how sleep affects recovery and it got me thinking about my own habits.

I play around 15-18 hours a week. One hour of stretching/icing etc. I get 7-8 hours sleep a night. I usually fall asleep around 10:30-11 at night and I'm up at 7. I'm 37. So I'm getting around 50-60 hours of sleep a week and playing 15-18 hours of tennis at age 37.

Play around 15-20 hours a week
Stretch for about 5-10 minutes after tennis, also stretch at night.
Get around 6-7 hours of sleep at night
Fall asleep anywhere between 11:30-12:30 during the week and am up by 6:30
Im 19

Do you think you get enough sleep and do you feel like you've recovered from exercise afterwards? For me if I stick to the above I'm good... withot it I need more time to warm up or extra caffeine etc.

I would like to sleep more like any other teenager but honestly i run fine on 6 hours of sleep, though waking up is tough lol. Physically i feel fine other than the minor back and neck pains.

Unless you're very unusual, you'd probably do better with more sleep. Teenagers, especially, need to get plenty of sleep to maximize their growth potential and recovery. Even your ability to memorize and learn new material would probably improve with 8 hours of sleep a night.

If you are having difficulty in waking up then you are probably trying to wake up at the wrong time -- during Stage 2 or a deeper stage (Stage 3 or Stage 4). You would probably be better off going a bit longer (6.5 or 7+ hours) to get you waking up during Stage 1 or REM (aka Stage 5).

As WildVolley suggests, you should probably even go for another full sleep cycle or 2 -- a bit more that 7 hours or closer to 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep. (The exact timings of an individual's sleep cycles will vary a bit from one person to the next). You may feel that you are operating fine on 6 hours but you are possibly shortchanging your body's needs in some ways ( perhaps subtle ways). It could catch up with you sooner or later. You may find that you will perform even better, mentally & physically, with a bit more sack time -- it could even improve your tennis game noticeably.
