Totally depends on the team situation in your area. Does anyone good play on the USTA Teams in your area? Better research it first.

I was the captain of my team the past two years. We played in the advanced division in a league comprised of teams from western mass, vertmont and northern ct. The level of competion varies from team to team and from year to year- last year we went just under .500 this year we won our league and lost only 1 dual match when both our 1st singles players were on vacation. The best player we saw (on my 18s team) was a 14 year old who was top 10 in New England boys 14s but didn't have a ranking in 16 or 18 at the time (though he's now in the top 60 in 16s I think). Some teams are really bad though-a couple didn't have a single player I would consider high school varsity caliber.
I also helped coach the 14s at my club-they were strong for girls (three girls from my team should play singles for their respective high schools this year) but weak for boys-the best boy was 10 years old.
The team format can be a lot of fun, I played singles in high school but loved playing doubles in team tennis. There's less pressure to win than in high school because everyone makes the tournament. On the other hand, it can be tough to drive an hour+ to play for 20 minutes (sets to 4, no-ad).

Where are you now? I definately wouldn't quit high school tennis to play exclusively team tennis, the season is much shorter and you play less tennis (at least in my experience). If you play USTA tournaments regularly team tennis could be a more fun alternative to high school. Also, there are girls on your team too, which could be a plus or a minus.

In my area there's two divisions, 14 and 18. My area isn't pretty good, only the one and two singles are good for every team. My team has won the past 4 (?) years in a row.

It really depends on your area. My team goes to sectionals just about every season and there are some pretty decent players there, but the matches are only 8 game pro sets.

Yeah, there's 14s and 18s. I'd say most kids playing 14s are in the 12-14 age range, most kids playing 18s are 15-17. In New England, my section, it's alot of kids that go to good public schools or private schools that play team tennis until they make varsity. I was a 4 year varsity player on a bad high school team, so it was kind of the opposite for me.
