Sup guys, was wondering what pros around you charge per hour for private lessons.
I want to start taking private lessons regularly, but he charges an hourly rate of about $60, and he told me if I became one of his regulars it'd be discounted down to something like $40/$50. He charges $80 though, at the indoor tennis club, only due to the fact that that's what the club charges.
I was just wondering what pros around you charge, so I can have a good idea of what a "good" price is. Thanks!

Depends on where you're from and the relative wealth of the area. In Phoenix, for instance, the going rate in the suburb of Scottsdale is $65 to $100. In Mesa/Gilbert, the rate is more along the lines of $40 to $50. At some of the ritzy resorts, it's $100 to $125.

I have a very inexpensive coach, only $35 an hour beacause he has a court at his home. We love him and he and his son even hit with me for free!

Seems like the rates are very similar, but my parents don't seem to believe me lol, and think they'll find quality for $20 an hour.

Do you live anywhere near a college w/ tennis teams? If so, you might indeed find a quality hitting partner. Players are generally strapped for cash and you might be able to hit w/ a college player for $20 to $25 an hour. Not necessarily a coach, but somebody that can still make you a better player.

Hadn't thought of that. Rutgers is only about half an hour away, and Princeton an hour away.

My kid used to hit w/ an ASU women's player who charged $25 for 90 minutes of hitting. At the time, he was 15 years old and she played #3 singles and #1 doubles. He learned a lot from playing her.

The coach I'm talking to charges $80 AT the tennis club he works at, simply because it's what the club asks, it's like a forced rate.
Then outdoor, separate from the club, he's asking $60. But he told me if I pre-scheduled dates and became a regular, he'd give me a large discount which seems fair.

Contact some of the college players in your area. They're always looking for an extra way to make money and I'm sure they have some good insight.
I play with a player from a local college and he charges 15/hour. He's really good, and as a junior in europe he played at the same academy as baghdatis

I know of a USPTA coach who charges $35 an hour. Quite a bargain, but he's one of those coaches living in the past. He never wants me to hit with topspin and he wants my legs anchored to the ground.

Im not a junior, but I am very fortunate to have a coach that charges $50.00 for one one-hour lesson, and then a each additional hour lesson I want during that week is $25.00. He also usually goes over by 15-45 mins so I usually get more than my money's worth.
I think he normally charges $60.00 per hour but since I am a college student paying my for my own stuff he helps me out. (I do not play tennis for college though, just for fun). He also lets me come and hit with some of his other students and kinda coaches me for free then too.

here in so cal/ arcadia are my coach charges us $50 for 1.5 hours. 1 hour for me and 30 min for my 8 yr old brother. Apparently it is really cheap since it's the same price from about 3 years ago. The coaches around us charges about $60 and hour...but i still think my coach is better:mrgreen:....
whenever i have practice our court always gets surrounded by people watching....

Mine are 80 bucks an hour. I know some other good coaches that charge $55. You pretty much need a coach that charges above $50s an hour.
I sometimes feel that clinics with other players are the best for experience play and conditioning. They are cheaper, and usually a lot longer.

I put out 30$ for a 1/2 hour semi-private lesson w/my gf, and 60$ every 1/2 hour for a full private w/the same coach... He is an improvement coach ie he boosts my power and consistancy thru technique on ALL shots. I kno two other coaches 1)endurance/touch/spin coach who charges 70$ every 1/2 hour, he improves angle shots/feel shots and on-court endurance (mentally and physically,) and 2)stroke coach who charges 20$ every 1/2 hour he keeps my stroke fine tuned and makes sure I dont make mistakes on setup, contact or follow thru.

I got your "stroke coach". Does he also work with GF?
The money you guys are talking about is a crime- $40.00
You can get a University player for a "hitting lesson" for @ $20-30 an hour. Try to negotiate with these players, they are usually broke and they can't help themselves with giving pointers as you are going along, so it ends up being a full on lesson, esp. in mental conditioning.

Technically, a paid hitting lesson w/ a college player could mess w/ their amateurism status. I'd keep it under the table.
My kid used to hit w/ former ASU players. The coaches forbade the current players from doing so for the very reason not to bring any undo attention.
£20-£23 an hour. the best coach is to do with technique. he charges me around £21-£23. the second coach just hits for fun which is good because it helps alot of the time he charges the same price(these two are graded well on the LTA) and the third guy costs £19 - £21 and hes a good technicle coach but is graded one lower than the other two.

for my coach, it's $300 a month, ~2 hours per day on weekdays. (usually w/4-5 other players....)
or, for my own case, i work 5 hours at the coach's house on weekend to pay off the rate for the week. (i.e. clean weeds, "gardening", etc...)
otherwise, for a guaranteed, one-on-one private coaching, i think it was like $50 per hour...

I charge £20 for adults and £15 for kids who have 2+ lessons a week. The groups i do is £6 for an hour or £8 for 1.5 hours ..
During the kids holidays sometimes i offer 10 hours hitting for £100 but the hours have to be done within a week.. paid upfront.
That is like the norm around my area apart from some clubs where the Head Coach charges about £35 for an hour.

Interesting to see the spread of prices in the UK and USA. Here in Australia it's, roughly, $60-$65 for 1hr and around $35 for 1/2hr.
Personally, I think that's just far too expensive and goes so far as to actively discourage people from ever having a lesson. Can't,for the life of me, work out why coaches wouldn't do more to attract customers instead of putting their services well out of the reach of most people.
I asked once why there was no such thing as a 'peak' and 'off-peak' rate but got absolutely zero response. When I book a court I get charged less prior to 5pm (off-peak). The reason given is that, with most people working during the day there's a greater demand for the courts during the evening (cost of running lights is negligible) and on weekends (which are classified as 'peak'). If that's true then, by the same reasoning, there should be less people wanting lessons during the day. So, why not charge a lower rate at those times? Instead of hitting people for $65 p/hr, why not make it $45? Or, instead of $35 for the 1/2hr, why not make it $25? That would put tennis into the (relatively) affordable bracket and encourage more people to take lessons. Surely that would be preferable to charging more but having less clients?
