Pros and Cons of waxingng the string job

I have seen stringers waxing the finished string job with candle,
does anyone knows the pros and cons of doing so?

Personally, I wax the mains before I weave the crosses to prevent burning (on a natural gut job or Iso Speed Pro Classic only.) I have no idea what good it would do on a synthetic after the fact.
