I'm just curious which Syn gut strings have the best tension maintaince. I'm not much for expensive multifilaments or co-poly, etc. just a good old fashion Syn gut like PSGD, Wilson Extreme Syn gut, Head Syn gut, etc.

Of Synthetics likes those mentioned about which are best for holding tension and playability? Looking for something for my Pure Drive Cortex's coming in a few days- thanks.

So far, my gamma synthetic gut seems to hold up pretty well, regarding tension maintenance. Either that or PSGD seem to be my ideal choices so far.

Gosen's OG Sheep Micro Super JC, the Jim Courier string.

Then, Prince's Original Synthetic Gut, which is typically a better fit for thinner beam racquets like yours than PSGD, which came out when widebodies did.

Do 17 gauge strings hold tension for longer than 16 gauge strings?

Do 17 gauge strings hold tension for longer than 16 gauge strings?

no, 16 guage strings generally hold tension longer, because they do not stretch as much; 17guage strings are generally softer; assuming the same material is used, and they give more ball-bite, with more spin and a tad bit livelier.

I've been stringing for juniors, 3.0 - 4.0 level, Prince Synthetic Gut 17g w/Duraflex on the mains and either Gosen OG-Sheep Micro 17g or Pro Supex Titan 17g for the crosses with pretty favorable feedback.

Duraflex is crisp and probably the most durable of 17g synthetic gut strings, while the Gosen and Pro Supex Titan adds some softness and bite to the string bed. Overall good combination for the intermediate player.

Does anyone know if the Gamm Synthetic Gut 17 w/Wearguard is any good? Seems like for the intermediate player it might be a good string.

Gamma's Synthetic Gut, the one with Wearguard, was introduced to compete with PSGD. The problem with PSGD appeared to be it was too harsh.

When Gamma's Synthetic Gut with Wearguard turned out, for its part, to be somewhat "dull" or "dead", Wilson came out with its "livelier" Stamina.

From this level, I'd still opt for POSG.

gosen og sheep micro is more crisp and soft at the same time than prince sgd and has a very nice pop sound at high tesion . by far the best syn gut out for its price

I'm a 5.0 player that hits with heavy topspin and has been using synthetic gut all summer. I used Gamma 16 gauge first, then the Gamma 16 gauge with Wearguard and now I'm using Prince 16 gauge with Duraflex. In terms of feel, they are all pretty close. In terms of string breaks, here is what I've found for me:

Regular Gamma: Lasts 4 matches
Wearguard Gamma: Lasts 2 matches
Prince w/ Duraflex: Lasts 5 matches

I read somewhere online (probably in these forums), that Wearguard did not last as long, but now I have seen it for myself.

Regular gamma lasts longer than wearguard?

My brother and cousin were popping sets of Gamma real quick. I had a busy summer (I had the yellow color if it matters)

The only thing good about syn gut is that it is cheap. Other than that, they are all similar and they break too soon.

Regular gamma lasts longer than wearguard?

Yes, regular white Gamma lasted twice as long for me. It does not make sense, but after doing 4 string jobs in 8 days b/c I played every day, I said goodbye to WearGuard. You would never know they are supposed to be the same type of string looking and feeling them side by side.

I should note that I play 90-95% of my matches on Har-Tru. I also string at 60 lbs, so maybe a lower tension gives you more use.

By the way, could you see spirals on the Gamma wearguard? I just bought a couple of those, based off of the gamma wearguard I played off of someone else's racquet, but it seems that there was no spiral effect on the one i played, yet it looked like it was there in the picture for TW.

If I remember correctly from a few months ago, the WearGuard had the spirals and the Regular gamma was smooth.

Pro Supex Spiral Flex or PSGD are the best IMO
