ok found a link. http://popwatch.ew.com/popwatch/2008/09/david-blaine-di.html

i don't get it either. i think its just hard on the body to hang upside down for 60hours like he did. what was amazing is that he held his breath underwater longer than anybody in history.

i think there was a screw-up, he looked embarrassed or something. what the hell was that??? everyone was confused, don't think it was supposed to happen like that...

I'm guessing maybe he was supposed to show that he could jump down from that height free weight and manage to land OK and not break his bones and die or something like that.

I don't think the cables were meant to be visible and that's why they did it at night. I think the cables were supposed to be just long enough to let him hit the ground but short enough to break his fall, and maybe with a quick release to get whisked up and out of sight while people are paying attention to him hitting the ground maybe rolling over a few rolls with lights flashing and all the whiz-bangs going around, so that people assume that he never had cables on him in the first place.

But the plan backfired and the cables were too short and broke his fall too soon and worse than that, didn't quick release. So there he was, stuck hanging on cables sheepishly waving at people after a failed stunt, with his secret revealed.

So they whisked him up into the night sky and the TV announcer tried to save the day by telling the TV audience that his magic was to disappear into thin air up in the night sky, haha.

That's just my guess of what went down.

Yeah haha! After all that I did a big WTF to myself.

I like his street tricks better than the large drawn out stunts anyways.

hahahaha  what a tool!
It didn't go as planned and he was just dangling on balloons like an idiot. hahaha
You can see the black balloons in this video at 2:29 and 4:25.
Listen to the idiot announcer saying "And he disappeared into the sky MYSTERIOUSLY. But how in the world did he escape into the atmosphere?" haha
Somebody please make a FAIL gif out of this one.

He didn't actually hang upside down for 60 hours, though. He took a 10 minute break every hour, meaning that he was actually hanging upside down for 50 hours, with 10 hours of breaks. It's still a feat, but the breaks should have been fully disclosed when he discovered he'd need them.

For his next trick: he will attempt to bang his head against a wall one thousand times, more than any other man in the western hemisphere (there was this dude in Budapest).

you try hanging upside down for 1 hour and tell me how that works out for you. I know I can't do it. With all the blood rushing to your head, you would probably feel nausea kick in.

WHAT? are you nuts? did you see the whole show where they showed his illusions and tricks, while he was hanging upside down?
I never really knew David Blaine and I, also, 'didn't get it' the hanging upside down, but then after hearing he was going to catch a bullet in his mouth, now, that's pretty incredible!

But, yeah, I used to be a HUGE fan of Angel, but DAVID BLAine IS waaay BETTER.
His magic is UNREAL!
you should watch some, and not judge him by this hanging thing.

David Blaine was originally known for his street magic. He was basically a predecessor of people like Criss Angel, and he was actually pretty well-respected back then. Then he turned into this "illusionist" and lost all credibility. He's a great street magician, but the stunts he does are ridiculously bad. He turns into more of a laughingstock with each one.

I disagree.

He's amazing, always will be....

I'd like to say that Blaine's greatest trick has been making himself popular...

... but anyone with a bunch of money to spend on marketing can be popular among today's far less than genius population.
