As with any significant spin stroke, you will run the risk of catching your frame due to the swing path being so much across the ball.

As you noted, because the timing is critical on such shots, (you will see many players do the same thing with full-speed topspin forehands or backhands), you will do this more when you are out of practice. Until you get your timing and rhythm, it isn't uncommon to see this occur.

A few years back while doing commentary at the U.S. Open, I say Taylor Dent frame a serve over the top seats of Armstrong stadium! So, it can happen even to the best of us!~

Yeah, I am also learning it recently, framing is definitely part of the learning process and will even appear after we master the strokes, pactice makes perfect !!!

Also, don't swing at it at the highest point, just wait for the ball to drop a little, just very very little, and contact the ball on the center of your string. hope it helps. :)

Edberg had the one of the greatest Kick serves of all time, and he framed it quite a lot. :)

Make sure you look up at the ball at contact.

yeah, looking at the ball is also very imporant, and I 4got to mention that, your tossing arm should not drop too early, and use tossing arm to help you judge the ball distance as you prepare to swing upward at the ball.

that's great advice. i had always heard to not let the left arm drop too fast but having it explained really resonates with me.

Case in point: Last game of the Wimbledon final in 1990. He frames one that looks to go out of the arena!

end of story

99.9% of miss hits are from not watching the ball

I'm glad it helps, as this is what my coach always remind me, LOL:)
