I have been working on my forehand, it is a very compact stroke and for some reason, whenever i slide my hip into the shot and just step in i get a pretty powerful shot. I don't know if my explanation is understandable or not. I also don't take much of a backswing. Is there anything wrong with what I am doing? Also, I would like to see the most compact pro forehand if anybody knows who has it, like one that doesnt take a backswing i guess. Sorry for the hard to understand question. Thanks

The one pro that comes to mind with a very compact swing, one without a loop, is John McEnroe. Too bad so many of his videos look so awful since they are so old.

Kimiko Date (of Japan) had fairly abbreviated strokes, though nowhere near McEnroe. She doesn't have any loop in her shots, yet hits pretty hard.

You won't find much on the men's side these days. But try too look at some women with eastern grips, their strokes are still pretty compact.

Jim Courier also had pretty compact strokes

Andre Agassi had a really, really compact (and money) forehand.

Yup, Andre A is a great model for a compact FH stroke. This feature is one of the reasons that he was one of the greatest serve returners of all time. There should be plenty of his videos around for you to study. I would probably put a tad more topspin on the FH than he did. According to Vic Braden, Agassi's low-to-high forward swing on the FH was, on average, about 20 degrees, whereas many other players are closer to 30 degrees.

Agassi's FH were practically half volleys when he's in the zone - very compact and excellent

Courier's FH was compact but his mechanics are unorthodox but great results.
