I've been working on my (weak) backhand with my new ball machine for the last week in the morning. I'm right handed. I normally hold my right hand in-between an Eastern Backhand and continental, and my left hand in between eastern forehand and semi- western forehand..this is just natural to me when picking up the racquet. My hands are pretty much touching.
About halfway through my first session, I decided to screw around with my grip a little bit. I slid my right hand about 1 1/2 to 2 inches further down the handle, to the point where my first 2 knuckles are on the handle, and the rest of the hand was hanging off. It was like an epiphany. I immediately felt like I had more leverage which means more power, plus I could direct the ball easier. I could hit both easy rally forehands and attempted winners with more consistency and spin.
I had a similar experience when I was playing softball. Separating the hands a bit made me feel like I could really clobber the ball. Has anyone else had this experience?
