16 for me.

Please mention what polyester you use and set up if it isn't a hassle =)

You dont' have any trouble w/ going dead w/ the PHT?

That's my main concern and now I am trying different polys such as Big Ace, Blue Gear, Lux Rough, and others.

big ace is a nice choice; plenty soft and comfortable.

ooo, nice setup :D I'm going to use that after I use up all of my Leopard string. I prefer 17, I feel it has better feel, helps a little with spin production.

Leopard Plus Control 17 47lbs Mains
Isospeed Control 16 50lbs Crosses

18 breaks too easily, 16 lacks feel, so 18L or 17 is best for me.

Do anyone of you guys know anything about the polyester named Leopard? My friend says its great so I ordered a pack. Anyone know what to expect if they tried it before? And same for the Kirschbaum Pro Line 2 and Topspin Cyber Blue.

Hmm, you do know that 18L is thinner, hence more breakable, than 18, right?

yeah i was thinking the same. 18 L is 1/2 gauge thinner than 18. You probably mean 17L

I agree that 17 is a better choice for polyesters because you get more feel with the string and without fear of sacraficing durability b/c polys are so durable. I am now most likely going to change for a 16 -> to a 17.

If it's the Plus Control, that's probably my favorite string. Idk why. It lacks power, has a good amount of control and spin except the spin isn't like others, it's more like the-ball-hits-the-service-line spin

idk about kirscbaum

cyberblue is probably one of the softest polys I've tried. It has a lot of power for a poly, spin is great, and it holds tensions exceptionally well. It just didn't feel right for me tho

Leopard is repackaged Premier Ace.

Is it really? I got my reel of leopard on craigslist for $70 I think, so it wasn't too bad, even though premier ace is available for $60...I'll have to try that next time.

Some people are just way to picky about polys going dead... I use it.. and sure it goes dead after a while but not as fast as everybody on these boards claim.. i also hit hard.

i go with mains tf syn gut at 60 and tf pro red code crosses at 62 both 17 gauge

I have a KBlade, and stringing that low doesn't really sacrifice any of my control. I personally think it feels great. I hybrid it with Isospeed 16 on the crosses, so the bed is soft. I get a good amount of spin, and because of the low tension I don't really worry about power.

From what I've read leopard is just a repackaged Premier Ace. If that's true, next reel I'm buying Premier Ace. It's almost 1/2 price.

I love playing with 18g Big Banger TiMo. It does not last more than a few hours, but I can make that ball dance with topspin.

I really like 18g polys. I don't break them as fast as some others and the bite on the ball and the added comfort (for a poly) is a good thing.

Kirschbaum S-Smash 16 at 98 lbs.

No, that's not a typo. I should really try to find a thicker gauge.

I believe it. Did you play the spiky? Horrible Horrible string. I strung it at 70, and the ball just launched off the stringbed at an absurdly high angle. Maybe if I strung it at 100lbs it would launch at an angle closer to ALU but I doubt it.

Just a very wierd feeling and playing string.

I prefer 16 still, because it lasts longer.

soft 18 is the best for me (sppp,ph). But yes, loses tension very quickly, and breaks

Nope, not the spiky. The S-Smash just works quite well in the Hi-Ten and it's cheap, very important considering it eats those small gauge strings for breakfast.

To all,

What gauge do you prefer when you use polyesters.

16, 17, 18 are the choices.

For many hardcore tennis players (ranked juniors, college, circuit pros) its all about equipment durability. They will hit almost any string that keeps them away from a stringer. They use thick polys and even double wrap overgrips so they can rip one off and still keep playing. They don't have the time or inclination to use thin polys that last an hour with little or no benefit.

If they have deep pockets then BBO 1.38 is top of the line.
