My friends and I were talking about how much we tip at bars. I usually go to the same bars regularly where I know the bartenders so I tip them more generously. I tend to tip a couple bucks per drink, for cheap drinks. It obviously depends on the drink/region, but I'd like to know what average is for you guys.

if bars equates to pubs, then the answer to your question is 'nothing'.

i don't see anyone that does so i don't.

- just an aussie.. :)

if i'm walking up to the bar to get it, then $1 or less. If i'm being served at a place i don't really frequent, 10-15% depending on service. At my regular hang out with the guys we always sit at the same place and have the same server, she knows our order and doesn't even ask what we want, just brings it. She usually gets 20%.

With all that said, I have no problem walking away without leaving a tip if the situation calls for it.

A buck per drink is standard and 2 bucks per drink is generous, but not overly generous. If you know the bartender well, A 20 on top of the standard tip is not unusual.

Totally agree! Paying a couple of quid for a drink and then giving the bartender another £2 for EVERY drink sounds crazy to me

It is yeah :) With a bit of ice, lemon.. and mint! top stuff.

I'll trade you a couple of bottles for a few boxes of those Butterfinger bar things, I had them when I was in America in 1998 and haven't found them here anywhere.

It is true that English people like sweets. I bring Tootsie Roll for my friends everytime I visit. I could have dropped some of them Butterfingers in Birmingham on my way to Wigan lol. I think it was you who is from Birmingham, right?

Good memory! Yeah i'm pretty close to Birmingham, about 30 mins outside the main city.

I think a years supply of Butterfingers in exchange for some Pimms and a trip to a Chelsea game sounds about fair ;)

Chelsea sounds cool or Wimby tickets lol. Went to the Wimby museum which was open for just 1 more hour so ran through it and paid 24 quids for that green souvenir towel lol. Fair deal then....Butterfingers to Pimms. Hey I finally saw Sigur Ros last month at NYC. They didn't play Ara Batur ( I remember you talked about it) but it was awesome nevertheless. They closed the show with that song Untitled 8.See them live if you haven't.

Trust me, the way we're playing at the moment, tickets to see Chelsea is as good as it gets! The way we destroyed a fantastic team like Villa with only half a squad last time out was scary, alot of the journalists in the days after said it could well of been the greatest performance since the Premier League started, high praise indeed!

Oh i'm jealous, still not been to see them. Ara Batur is my favourite off the last album by a mile yeah, I saw a video of them recording the song and the number of people and instruments they had would probably of made it impossible to recreate the same magic on stage, which is understandable I suppose... i'd want to see them do it justice and if that's not possible on a stage then that's fair enough.

And those towels are pretty expensive lol, you have to try and find a player on an outside court and ask him for his after the match! They get given a couple each round so you might manage to save yourself £24 :)

I always over-tip (unless the service is poor in which case I tip nothing). I find that I never have to wait for a drink and that alone is worth the coin when in a busy bar.

absolutely not! my wife topped every single lady in the casino, and didn't even have her breasts falling out of her shirt!

Another reason why I buy in bulk, invite friends over and drink at home to watch a game, play cards or cookout/swim.

I think its rediculous to tip a bartender because they do nothing more than a fast food cashier and I don't have to tip them. At least if the bartender had to walk to a table to deliver the drink it would be one thing, but they don't even have to move and they get tipped $1 every time they pull beer out of a fridge and open a bottle cap that takes 5 seconds?

With that being said, I tip about 20% to bartenders but I don't think its right. I have no problem tipping waitors and give 20-25% usually.

Well if they know you tip well, sometimes you get your drink a bit stronger. In general I hate tipping at bars/restaurants. I would rather tip the guy that made my food rather than the guy that brought it to me. However, with all that being said I nearly always tip 20% at restaurants and usually leave a tab open to tip about 20% at bars. I really don't like tipping a buck per beer because then it ends up being like 25-33%.

I feel like 99% of the time I wait much longer than I should have to wait to get served a drink at a bar. I also hate how I am standing there for 5 minutes waiting to place a drink order and some guy comes up and immediately gets served by the bartender. Most bartenders don't deserve a tip and I only do it because its the norm and I would feel guilty otherwise.
