Just me hitting some groundstrokes. I should have picked a better camera angle, but I rushed because I had to get off the court. I think a lot of shots look like they are going way out, but most of them I think dropped in (this is again due to the angle I think). Any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks

hey fluffy thanks. yeah i've improved a good bit, most of it coming from growing and being able to hit the ball with more authority.

Wilsonplayer - I would 'really' love to have you set up that video on the baseline so I could see you from the side. You hit a forehand very similar to the way I hit mine (although much better btw...). I am particularly interested in seeing your arm at takeback as you initiate the forward swing - to see if your arm kind of straightens out right before you come forward.
Your finish - if I am not mistaken, is similar to Aggasi's? You finish mostly over the shoulder.
Sweet two hander, and good positioning to hit it it the sweet spot each time.

haha it's interesting you said agassi. for years, when i was 10 till about 14, he was the only player i watched.
i will post another video that will be filmed from the baseline. i think my arm does straighten out a bit. i've really been working on having my arm extended as i hit the ball so that i can generate more velocity.

Mine DOES straighten out and I am really not sure it is supposed to. I have a finish very similar to yours too, whic is why I ask. I am wondering how much to stress over it in the next year, hehee.
When you post the new one, be sure and make a big deal out of the Subject Line so I don't miss it!!!

wait smoothtennis, i'm sorry i think i misinterpreted what you said. i keep my elbow bent on the take back and i start straightening out as i swing forward, so that my arm is not tight on my body and that i can get a full swing. im not sure if this is waht you are talking about or not.
vermillion - thanks. it's my favorite shot.

what racquet are you using there? looks like the swing of someone who is using a pro staff 6.0. lol...maybe i'm totally off base. looks like you're using a pretty stiff racquet...
EDIT. Ah, I just paid attention to what racquet you were using. K6.1 i think. Probably not the team..
Your slice looks federesque as well :)
So...who is wilsondude? same guy??

Thanks popwar. and hyogen, it actually is the team, just really leaded up. i couldn't stand the feel of the normal k6.1, something about it felt very off. the team had this sweet feeling on serves and volleys that i got that was missing from the k6.1, and i serve and volley a good bit.

no offense...but do you really find Federer's quote "more important to be nice" that profound?? maybe you're just making fun of it by putting it in your sig, but at least to me, it sounds really cheesy..

I like your groundstrokes. You seem to be doing most things right. Nice unit turns, closing the racquet well in the backswing and getting a nice extension into the ball. At least from that camera angle you seem to be solid. Your backhand is also smooth.
With proper training and enough athleticism, I wouldn't be surprised if you turn into a very good player, assuming you have a decent serve. Are you planning on playing in college?

by the way, I take back the federer forehand. you have more of a roddick forehand. :)

I'm not making fun of it. There good words to live by. My biggest pet peeve are people that think they're more important than everyone else. Federer says he lives by these words and for someone in his position to feel that way is breath of fresh air from all the other professional athletes that think they're the cat's meow. When was the last time you heard an NFL, NBA, NHL, or MLB player say anything like that? Words to live by don't have to profound.

wildvolley - i'd love to play in college. i'm just coming back from an injury (tore my labrum) that kept me out for the past 4 and a half months of being able to play. i'm looking right now at programs i could play at .
hyogen - haha i don't think i have any other videos, i think i just said thank you to fluffy because it was a compliment. and i dont think i look like a roddick forehand, maybe a little. hopefully not too much :)

This topic is completely unrelated but hes just saying it for the interest of self image. Unless its an event that is planned or would benefit his image, i havent seen a time that federer has been nice to other people. He completely ignores fans (understandable since theyre annoying) so i dont see how saying the quote is profound in any way if he does live by it.

haha it's alright ballinbob. there's been some confusion recently.
and yeah it's a ball machine. i don't have a lot of practice partners where i live unfortunately, so a ball machine is what i work out on if i can't find a solid hitting partner.

Hmmm seem to recollect user by name of iphoneman posted those videos, and when he was rated low he went berserk and cursed out everyone, and hence his ban.
But you seem to be a nice guy, so whatever. You seem to have improved alot. Smooth backhand, I can tell its your favorite shot.

Yep - that describes it pretty well. Video will confirm of course, takeback elbow is bent, but I straighten out as I come forward.

Your backhand is very nice! Very nice strokes overall! Anyways, I noticed that on your backhand side, you're not stepping in. Try to step in better and you will get even more power on your backhand. Good luck!

when you practice with the machine, do you have some kind of practice plan or just hitting back. Can't tell from the video, but it looks like you just hit the ball back. if possible, try the video from the back and go for shots in specific areas of the court. Like 5 up the line, 5 short cross-court, etc. You have fluid strokes, but they seemed inconsistent. By that I mean, your FH looked like every stroke was the same, but the shots were not consistent in placement (some high, some low, some in the net). Again, you have nice fluid motion on both sides and have good footwork. Like another poster stated, try getting video from another angle and try placing a specific amount of shots (let us know in the post what your shot selction was).
Match play would be next.:)

azzurri you probably could not tell where the ball was going due to the camera angle. i vary the height of the shots based on the amount of spin i put on it. and yes, i do have a pattern when working with a machine but i was working on my inside out forehand that day and decided to show you guys both forehand and backhand, so in this particular clip, there is no real pattern in terms of whether it is a forehand of backhand, but there was a pattern of direction.

ok, so if you indeed provide another clip try to have have a specific pattern for a number of shots. For instance; have 10 shots down the line, inside FH, cross-court..or whatever you choose. Your strokes seem nice, but the angle does not do you much justice. Try the other angle and provide specific shots (more than 1 or 2) and you will get a good idea of any "fixes" you may need. good luck!

True, but let's keep in mind that Nickb's slice is probably the weakest area of his game. The OP's slice technique needs some refining, for sure.
P.S. Not that I'm trying to put Nickb down or anything...

I love your groundstrokes! They're very good looking on both sides. Great extension and balance! The slice looks under practiced, but the technique is there.
It would be great to see you hit against a player of the same level, a ball machine is much too easy for you.

Very nice!!! The forehand is Federer-ish. Although you have a more bent elbow. I like the way you lean into the forehand with weight on the front foot and you back foot is kicked back, off of the ground. Federer seems to do this quite a bit when he has time and wants to put extra pace into the forehand. Your backhand is just a thing of beauty. Overall, I just love the way you hit - I wish I could hit like that.

I just watched this again and you almost made me want to switch to a 2hbh for a second lol. That is just a ridiculously good backhand. Such a nice looking shot, almost pro looking in my opinion. Your slice may need a little work (and i mean a little), but your topspin 2hbh is crazy good.
Once again, good job

True on the backhand. I admit, his video actually had me trying out my old two hander - uhhhhhhhh - No. It was nothing like his. After some amount of stubborn effort just to hit a clean smooth two hander - when I went back to my one hander after 15 minutes of frustration it felt like the easiest shot in the world! I was never so thankful to hit a 1HBH in my life, LOL!
