Hi Everyone. After several requests, I'm posting some photos and vids of the Men & Women's 30's USTA Clay Court Championships. Unfortunately, due to work I was unable to get photos/vids of all the earlier matches (1st round, quarters, etc). However, was able to witness some incredible tennis starting with all the semi final matches.

Carlos Gomez-Diaz vs Andy Lake. This match was crazy, CRAZY good. First set, Lake serving for it at 5-3, and Carlos breaks back. Carlos then holds, breaks Lake again, and then serving for it 6-5, has 10 deuce points. Each ad point in that game was unreal. The crowd holding their breath, ooing and ahwwingg. The points were filled with very high level all court play, blazing winners and awesome net play from both players. Finally, with an ad point, Carlos hits a short forehand that Lake punishes with a blasting inside out forehand. Carlos runs to his left, as lake comes into net, and ala Federer, Carlos blasts the most acute backhand cross-court winner, followed by a roar from the crowd, and a "vamos" from Carlos. He takes the first set 7-5. Second set was more of the same from both players, but in the end, Carlos took the second 7-5 as well.

Although I didn't watch a lot of the second semis, it was not wihthout it's share of very high quality tennis. Both guys have spectacular grounds games, serves.

Aracic, 6th seed defeated the number 2, Williams in 3 sets.

Awesome Drak. The fact that you are up this early either means 1 of 2 things. Your date last night woke you up finding her shoes, or the final is about to happen! So take video and pics again!

haha. yup, "My Date" woke me up early. LOL Check her out right here, who by the way, decided to run up the long board walk in the middle of all the semis barking up a storm.

Anyway, I wore this shirt yesterday (was a big hit). :)

On to the women. I'll start with Moz's woman, who once again withdrew after getting trashed the first set by the number 1 seed. Unfortunately, due ot her complaining about court 8, I was unable to get more photos of this match as it was played on the dreaded "COURT 9" (sup's favorite court)

Gosh Drak, I don't know where to start! :)

First of all, thanks for much for taking the time to post videos/pictures/whatever! I'm having trouble deciding which is my favorite AL photo...I'll let you know when I make my decision!!! http://smilies.vidahost.com/cwm/cwm/wink.gif He does look in great shape, though (all the players do), but did he always have such 'guns'? Is he channeling Nadal?

LOL, why is MD my nemesis? Because she smeared the court with me (puts her in good and numerous company), or because she gets to pair with AL? ;)

Interesting that the teaching pro and VM both use the APDC? Hunh. And, a few microgels, too I see.

The unseeded gal in the finals...what's the scoop on her? Other, than, of course, her *fabulous* initials! (GT!) There was a 3.5 woman in the draw, too, from CA!!!

Nice shirt! If that's what you broke out for Friday, I can only imagine what you have in mind for Saturday!!!

Keep up the good work, Yoda!

PS...Drak, isn't it still 2008??? ;)

As Sup has already stated, Carlos won the first 6-3, then lost the second 6-3, and finally upped his game in the last set to take the title at 6-3. Great, all-around tennis from both guys. Carlos was rolling fh's, hitting droppers, and blasting shots when needed. And he did it all with a Microgel Prestige Mid :)

You are welcome. I didn't realize I put the wrong date on the title. LOL Too many heinekens last night. :)

Still have more pictures/videos.

By the way, Lake lost the bronze ball match (singles), and Mary and he lost in the mixed finals today in 3 sets. Real bummer They played crappy in the last set. He actually lost serve, and then the other guy served it out. :(

Vesna and Carlos took the bronze.

The "mystery" girl absolutly trashed Tricia in the finals. Only girl who gave her a hard time was Vesna.

Wow! I wonder if he still felt a bit disappointed from his singles losses? The guy opponent in mixed...played against him last year. I remember getting two of his volleys back, and it felt like each one of them was a gunshot when it hit my racquet! I think he actually aimed at my racquet to make it easier for me!

Still, he had a good tournament! Maybe he should switch back to his nCode? But he should definitely keep the shirts!

Heh, heh...too many beers? How many is too many I wonder? *thinking*

You are very welcome. Always nice to share with others these type of national tournaments. All these players deserve a lot of credit, and never get any attention on these boards. Everyone is too focused on the pros, and don't realize how good these players are. Glad you are enjoying the thread.

I have not used the camera. It has some great features. I heard that John Yandell and Brian Gordan have used the camera for their video work. For the price, I think it is the best high speed video camera out there. If you do not need the high speed video, I think there are better cameras for the price. What camera did you use for these shots?

It looked like Andy was laying into his forehands. Looked like some high level tennis from both of them.

Thanks, Mike. For these shots I used the Kodak v610 (smae one in my serve video).

I would really like to use that high speed function, so will be looking at it.

Yes, Lake was smashing that FH. He puts so much behind it. Hits with a ton of spin, and pace. (very heavy ball). However, Carlos is able to handle it, and when needed could flat out bruise the ball. The quality of play was amazing. More tomorrow (womens doubles finals, mens, and the consolation finals).

That is the same ncode Mario used last year.

Moz' gal was simply outclassed. Period. End of story. She didn't even show up today for the bronze match.

So far, some of the players I hit with:

Vesna= Bronze ball in the mixed, and singles. She will be playing in the woman's doubles final tomorrow, so is assured a minimum of silver.

Martha= Playing in the consolation finals tomorrow against the #2 seeded player.

Carlos= Gold in singles, bronze in mixed.

BTW< I have a HUGE!!!!! surprise for you tomorrow. :)

You have it wrong.

Moz has a patent over black undies over white undies pretending to be shorts.

Honestly Moz, you should just bring back spandex shorts.

Spandex shorts do not have the transparent quality that I enjoy with the black undies/white short/oh-my-it-is-a-sweaty-day combination!

I don't know...I have a feeling Moz would go commando before donning a thong.

But I could be wrong!

For 2009 I am replacing my whole short collection. I will be moving to extra small size white shorts and will be wearing red underwear with the white shorts pre-soaked.

It's what "they" want.

^^^^^^^I would like to see photos of that as well, especially if Moz is given a dozen or so hard-boiled eggs. (bailey's ears are popping up in anticipation) :)

Anyway, Mario decided to drive down from Wisconsin, and called me Saturday night when he arrived to Ft. Lauderdale. (I had no idea he was coming).

We spent Sunday watching the finals matches being played, and then hit the courts our-selves. I'll tell you, he was blasting his serve. Couldn't belive how much pace he was hitting it with.

One of the girls I have been hiting with who joined us, caught Mario's attention, and being that he is an assistant tennis coach at a University up in Wisconsin, he immediately began trying to recruit her.

We'll see. The three of us are going to play tonight and I will be taking some video of her so he could take back with him.

Linda and Mario send their best to all of you.

As for the tournament. What can I say. It wasn't the same without the three of you here. Many people were asking about all of you. The tourney itself was great. Very, VERY high quality play all-around. Good stuff for sure.

Trust me, it was not an easy decision to make! :( Hopefully things will fall in place for next year.

I'm wondering, too, that I bet this d*mn cold I can't get rid of wouldn't still be here if I had had some FL sunshine! *cough* *cough*

Yeah...who's in your avatar? Does Yoda approve?

^^^hehehe. yeah, I believe mario was still a little drunk when we did the video. I was thinkiing the same thing???????who is Eric????? LOL

Yes, he is playing with the Babolat PD and has really tuned in on that thing. Getting velocity on his serves, and good spin on the groundies. BTW, he has started to play with a one-hander because he injured his left elbow, so can't use it for two- hander.

The girl in my avatar is the Polish girl Mario is tyring to recruit. She was here yesterday with us, as I was uploding the photos. She then wanted to register for the site, and asked me to show her how to upload a avatar, os I used her photo. :)

Mario came over of course and was getting hammered (poor Linda)

Having seen him play, and also hit with him for a bit>> I could tell you he is a damn good player. keep in mind this was a year ago before he started taking it seriously and on to a new level. Can't imagine how good he is striking the ball right now. he must be scary good. Let us know how you two get along on the court. Look forward to reading about it.

Good stuff Drak - there are lots of top juniors training and hitting all over the place because of the Orange Bowl tourney - We had what sounded like some Russion kids hitting next to us at Sunrise on Saturday - The teen girl was shrieking so loud it sounded like a combination of someone being shot and the filing of a porno.

She's a long hair and a year old, but the hair isn't super long - I've also heard that it takes sometimes two yrs for them to get their full coat. My other girl is two yrs old and looks just like yours.

I've had dogs all my life, but this breed is amazing, they're almost human and smart as he$l.

Too bad you didn't come to see some of the matches over here. Vincescourts was also coming but never showed. He must have been stringing and/or hitting with many of those juniors you are speaking about.

Dementiava was also here over the weekend training. :)

yeah, she was very depressed when Moz left. Kept looking at **MY** bag as to say>>> yours doesn't have that same lovely scent. :)

Like you said, they are very, very smart. One quick story>> Topaz,Moz, Sup2dresq stayed wih me last year for the Nationals. When Topaz arrived, she put her bag down, and as she was taling to the other here, Bailey went into her bag and found a toy Topaz had brought for her. LOL. She still has it. :)

bailey often "hides" her toys, and when I find them, and put them back in her box, she waits till I'm not around and puts them back where she "hid" them. LOL
