Without even the slightest consideration of any partisan policy that I may disagree with, and I'm sure there will be plenty, when I watch Obama deliver his speeches, the faces of the black people in the crowd are moving to me. I think that anyone willing to employ any empathy at all would feel the same way. And it is something that transcends politics.
If you take a minute to consider what it would feel like to have a lifetime of subjection lifted right before your eyes. Sure, racism still exists, but this has to be the single biggest thing that could happen to alleviate it .
This is something truly American, and something that our country needed. For these people in the crowd, they now have a reason to care.
