i am 17 yr old and i am turning 18 this year. i have played tennis since i was little but i quit for a long while then started up again this past summer. i have never played any tournaments and very little match play with some friends. i made varsity on my high school team (first time[since i quit]). but i want to start doing USTA touraments for the experience but i am clueless on what to do.
do juniors get ntrp ratings? or do they just separate into age groups, so that the good 17 yr olds can pound away at the dcent 17 yr olds?
if they dont get ntrp, should i just practice more for a year or so then join as an adult so i can fit into the 3.0?
someone please help me =D

what you should do is sign up for usta, and do some entry level usta tournaments in your state or section, and once you start to do well in the enty level ones, move on to more advanced tournaments

The first thing you need to do is join the USTA as a member...just go to usta.com and there will be a "Membership" link...click on that and it's pretty self-explanatory from there. There is a small membership that you will have to pay. After you join, look for tournaments in your area that would allow you to play in it. Some tournaments are closed and you need to have a certain ranking to be able to play in those. Ask someone at your club which ones you could automatically gain entry into...I am not sure where you are from so it's hard to tell you exactly which ones you can play in. Anyway, you would enter in the 18 and under age division in the tournament.
Are you looking to get into college this year? Have you applied anywhere? Do you want to play in college?

Play in the 18s age group until you get too old, then you can play the NTRPs after that.

Club sports and intermurals are a great way to go, they're also a good way to meet people in college.
