Seems like theres something about the AO that frequently brings a surprise finalist. Who do you think will come through this year?

I say Querry or Nishikori

I would really love to see Blake through to the finals, he always does so well but always comes up just a bit short thanks to that Federer...or some other random players.

Also, Del Potro, and Querrey sound nice. And, also would love to see Nadal coming through and maybe Roddick.

Well, given what I've been reading in other threads around here for the past year or so, I think this Roger Federer character might make a reasonable dark-horse pick. I mean, he clearly can't be a favourite of any sort, right?

Honestly, I'm sort of hoping to see the younger guys take another step towards being legitimate contenders. I can't even pretend to 'know' what's going to happen, so I'll just sit and hope that Gulbis and Cilic put together a few good rounds, so that they can have a chance to mix it up with the big boys. That's assuming Gulbis' low ranking doesn't have him up against a big-name player in the first round...

What's Janko up to at the moment? Another big Safin run would be great, I predicted he'd have one more big run before wimbledon but two would be sweet. he's quite high up in the rankings now?

Janko reached the quarters of the Chennai Open before losing to Marin Cilic in 3 sets, hes in pretty good form atm. Yeah Safin is 29th in the world, and he played some good matches in Hopmans Cup especially his match against Hrbaty, he showed some of his old magic. Safin going deep in the Australian Open is all that I could ask for, he deserves that before he retires.

Gulbis , Nishikori , Cilic .

Del Potro can't be a dark horse. He is up there already.

I hope Somdev did he had no problem dispatching a bunch of top 50 players in Chennai if he beats cilic..though I imagine he is in the draw for the AO...but I would have to check.

Davydenko is injuried..

You have to be right around the top 100 to get into the main draw of a slam. Somdev is at 202 right now and will not even be close to the top 100 with a win in Chennai. He's going to have to play the qualies.

Nadal-Semi's his best so far and no one really expects him to make the final.

Simon-Slow, steady, and has belief. I think he takes that final step.

Tsonga-Can get hot and take anybody out, plus he's ready for the big time, or so he says.

Love all the Nishikori talk. He's been my pick for a dark horse. Any news on his health? Hopefully he's ready to go.

Behind him is Gulbis.

That's what's great of the AO, everyone's ready to go, had some rest and the fields are a little more open as a result.

Seems like theres something about the AO that frequently brings a surprise finalist. Who do you think will come through this year?

I say Querry or Nishikori

Querry LOL X 1000

I think now the pressure is off Gasquet a little as people have decided he wont fulfil the potential he might just reach the final.

For a real way way way outside outsider, who would need a lot of luck (but not as much as Querry LOL x 2000) try Fernando Verdasco or PH Matthieu

Querry LOL x 3000, ah thats good stuff - still laughing LOL x 4000
