I asked this on another thread but it didn't get answered so I'll post it here.
How do you guys tighten the knot at the top for the first cross? Using a starting knot works because you tighten that by pulling tension on the second cross but how about tightening the knot when you start the crosses with a starting clamp? When I try to tighten the knot, the bracket thing that goes on top of the frame gets in the way. Has anyone figured out a way around this?

Use a starting clamp if you can.

No, I mean how will I tighten the knot when I'm using a starting clamp to start the crosses.
You come back, retension the string, pull off the starting clamp, reclamp 1st cross, tie knot.

Yeah, I had a typo there. Besides, I didn't realize he was talking about 2-piece/hybird/50-50. I was thinking 1-piece for some reason...

Re-reading the OP, I answered completely wrong.
To tie off when you use a starting clamp, you do as Zhou said. You can do this either halfway down or once you tie-off at the bottom.

I don't think you are understanding what I'm asking here...
I know WHEN and HOW to tie a knot. I'm saying that, when stringing on X-2, the black bracket thing that goes on top of the frame gets in the way of the pulling-and-rocking-back motion. I'm asking if anyone has found a way to get around that.

Since we all got it wrong, take a photo of what you're referring to next time and post up...

prostaff, I'm not sure what you are talking about on this either. I started out stringing on an X-2 but never had any problem with the knot on the crosses. Nothing was ever in the way for me. Like others said. Maybe take a pic of what you are talking about and post it up and maybe we can help.
