I just tried to list a pair of hiking boot on **** and have learned that sellers MUST accept only Paypal or some other electronic payment method. This is illegal, as far as my knowledge of the Uniform Commercial Code goes.

Anyone else pretty much disgusted with ****?

(Note: I mean the large internet auction site; instead you see asterisks.)

Did they just change it??

I listed things before and put Money Order/Check only.... no Paypal.

Edit: Yeah they changed it....

Flea bay bought paypal several years ago. About three months ago, they went to a paypal only format. They also raised their final value fees. Flea bay wants their cut of everything. If you sell something, be prepared to fork over about 15% of the total in combined fleabay and paypal fees.

They also made it impossible for sellers to leave negative feedback for buyers starting last May. I had a nightmarish buyer shortly thereafter and I couldn't even leave the guy a negative feedback.

I don't see how they can legally force you to use their electronic payment system. I'm wondering what business lawyers make of this.

It's easy. You agree to the "Terms of Agreement" by signing up to sell on THEIR website. That means they can require you to send your product to them first, if they so desired. It's their site. Their rules.

Don't like it? Sell somewhere else.

I sell a lot of stuff on the bay and I have the option of accepting money orders or checks.

I think a lot of sellers (myself included) use paypal only, why? because I recently purchased a racquet that never showed up.

so what did I do? After calling the guy and getting no love I filed a claim with paypal. Two weeks later they refunded my money and said if they couldn't get it from the loser they would take legal action

that is why you use paypal. Is it a pain if you don't have an account? yeah but I would never sell or buy an item on the bay without it personally, just so much safer, same with selling racquets here, I always pay or ask for payment via paypal, always

Lejanius: how did you get the payment option?

I got hacked before with PayPal and some clown in England tried to pull $500 out of my bank. I'm skitterish about PayPal for this reason---it seems no matter what, when you have a problem with internet exchanges you always end up lumping it: no one cares.
