Here in SoCal Jr. tournaments this coming new year, I think SCTA are going to implement the block-seeding system.. I feel that this is a good thing because we have such a big draw and it will save court time and also give those up and coming players a better chance to get to the later rounds before they hit a high seeded player...in SoCal,those high ranked kids are really too good to compare, and when they all show up,then it's pretty hard for a mid-lower rank player to compete with them.. I know a boy, last year he must have played dozen tournament and he always met a high ranked player in the first or second round.. he never past into the second week-end.. this kid is good, but still cannot compete/or compare to those high ranked players, they're just too good... so what do you think?
BLOCK-SEEDING
The top 8 players in each division have been "block-seeded" and will start play on the 2nd Saturday . All other players will play down to 8 spots on the first weekend.

Sounds good but I would leave it, losing always makes you better :)

yeah but it also discourages kids who worked so hard and seems like they don't get anywhere when they keep losing... not every kid has an iron will.. but it doesn't mean they should give up or quit.. because with kids, you'll never know, something could just click and that losing kid now has found a way to win.. I've see is happen before..they grow, physically or mentally and POW they become new and improved almost over night(over summer at least)...

I agree with you 100%, this is a much needed change for So Cal Designated tourneys and I hope they do continue to use it. Block Seeding was used this last week at the Gene Jung Designated, it allows the mid-level kids a chance to win a few rounds as opposed to coming up against the high seeds right away.

Like a reverse feed-in consolation. I like it. Why didn't they think of this stuff sooner?

This has been going on for at least 3 years in the Midw***, so it is nothing new. I just assumed that all the larger sections were doing this.

Top seeded players are held out of the draw, usually 8 players. Rest of the kids play down to top 8, then the 16 play down to a winner.
