View Full Version : Legs during serve, which one first?

Ok. So a great tip for improving your serve it to fire your right hip first and get it higher than your left hip, just like your shoulders should be at contact. Now, to accomplish this you have to push off with your backfoot sooner, or at least harder, than the front foot correct? Or do you still jump off with your front foot mostly but just kind of lift your back lead? Your thoughts on this tip and how to best accomplish it.

I think again as the coaches say apply equal pressure on both legs at trophy pose and then either foot push off a little bit harder on your choosen foot that should do it and also the hip up makes transfering your body upwards easier or so I heard. :lol:

If you're going to concentrate on something in this area, focus on equal weight on your feet for good balance in the trophy pose. Then think about using your legs to drive your hitting elbow up at the ball. Let your mind/body do what it knows how to do on it's own.
Seems there's two main styles of leg motion after the trophy position.
Some great serves jump up seemingly with both feet apart and rotate into the ball, often but not always landing first on the former back foot.
Other great servers move the backfoot up next to the front at the moment of the trophy position, thing spring up off both feet together, often landing on the front foot first.
Do what feels natural and consistent to you.
