hey guys, did you check out the Fullerton tournament schedule for this weekend? It's full of BS ... the 16s and 18s boys qualifier has to play 1 morning match and then play a seeded player later right after ,while the seeded player didn't play last week and now he gets an additional free ride while the qualifiers battle it out.. what kind of BS scheduling is that == totally un-fair.. so if the qualifiers have a tough match,he's spent and the seeded player is fresh as a daisy ... WTF?

it;s not that rule #1 of tennis = anything can happen.. I just think is a bit un-fair to those kids who have to qualify to play more .. while the main draw guys are so rested..

Ya I agree. Anyone else really not like this whole "block seeding" thing?? Obviously the top of the top are going to like it because they only have to play one weekend. But guys in the middle that end up being the 1 or 2 in the non main draw get pissed.

well i dont know how many of the top players like it either....when u enter a tournament u want to play lots of matches, after all thats what u pay for....if youre one of the top 8 players and play a really tough qualifier and lose then u paid $30 to play one match and get 0 points....kind of sucks.

I think in the case of Fullerton, If you are one of the "top" players, one of top 8... You aren't going to be losing right away.
Thought about signing up for this tournament and called the director, and asked about the two weekend format and how would that work?- Told basically to "blow off" as there were too many "top" players in So. Cal to stand a chance for making the 2nd weekend (He said this without knowing who he was even talking to)- So you can have it- And have fun.

18s boys is OK ,16s is weak == yeah the tournament director sometimes comes off as a jerk ,but I think he's ok... but seeing this block seeding in the works,it's starting to look like a pretty bad idea.. the Whittier tournament was destroyed by a bunch of the seeds defaulting after playing a few points so they can get credit then run and hide in case they may lose...

That is why it is basically impossible to break the top 10 in So Cal, the top players will play one point then withdraw as injured, for endorsement purposes only...what they need to do is adjust endorsement requirements in So Cal and not make the top seeds play (or not really play) if they don't want to, and give others a chance to raise their ranking...someway.

point well taken... yeah there's definitely something wrong with the ranking system or any and every ranking system... it's a hard task to keep the system fair and just... and then some guy is gonna pop up and say" why worry about the ranking system, just practice hard ;;; blah blah " but the rankings help colleges see where everyone stands and that's what most kids are playing for.. college scholarships ect...

well lets say your #8 out of those top 8 and u play the #9, who had to qualify, first round...that could go either way

The way to fix withdraws is simple and was in many other posts/threads-
They have to have "no excuses" penalties for withdrawing- Injured or anything else.
You get 10 points a year to work with.
-1 point for withdrawing after deadline but before draws are posted THEN
-2 points for withdrawing after posting of draws thru to the end of the tournament- Doesn't matter if you are taken off the court by ambulance or hearse. These points work along side your normal behavior penalties.

You're looking at it from the wrong angle. As the player who had to qualify, you're now warmed up, on a streak, playing someone who doesn't have a match under their belt. Its possible that seed hasn't played a tournament match in 2-4 weeks. This is how pros at the Slams go through qualies and then win a few main draw rounds, they've got more match experience during the week.

totally agree. thats why i kinda like this block seeding stuff because if you qualify you have a good chance for an upset. But it sucks for the 8th block seed cuz they were barely held out and if the draw the 1 seed from the qualifying whose played 4 tourny matches theyre in trouble

Haha well the only seed i played was schienman so thats obviously him haha. ya it was a good match. i hope u werent watching the 1st set it was ugly on both out parts. lol. my problem is i cant win a 3rd set. If you look at my record I've lost 9 or 10 three set matches in national tournaments. thats big national points haha. I think I've won like two three setters. And in the past 5 months I've lost 2 matches in straight sets. 1 was 0 and 2 and the other i was up 5-1 and lost 6 and 3 so I mean I'm close. It's all in my head lol

pace your practices and ad it to your matches and you'll see a difference! Btw thanx for the compliments on the boy its always nice when your peers do that , i think the great part was it was deits first time using that racket the new Kobra and we decided to demo it in the tourny he went from a 93 head size to a 100 sq in and only had the one racket what a risk!

no a lot of the higher ranked kids just entered to fill the required sectional play, since everyone will get credit because of all the rain delays and cancellations, now they don't need to play to get credit, just like the Whittier tournament in the boys 16s they just showed up and hit a few balls and default and got credit to play Easter Bowl or wherever else .. it's sort of sad because now those high ranked kids will never be touched or tested by the up and coming because they just escape ... that's the ranking system in SoCal...

i like hearing this, the mentality of these kids no integrity looking for a way out or the easy way just shows how deep the comp is.
