Hey guys, I'm in desperate need of some lead tape. However, I hate ordering online because it's so cheap, and my shipping turns out to be more than my actual product. So: Does a place like Lowes sell lead tape? Is there some other use for it that would make a store like this have it? Is there a good substitute available? Or am I just going to have to order some? Thanks

Try a golf store near you.
I had no luck finding it anywhere near me; good luck in your searches!
That said, if you are trying to add weight to the butt-end, you can put objects like coins or magnetic tape inside the handle. I'm not sure if there's a good substitute for adding lead tape to the head, though.
I've also heard rumors of other online distributors of tennis goods who doesn't charge shipping on items like lead tape, but I don't know who it is, or if it's even the truth.

^^I would, but I don't have a trap-door butt-cap. Or am I misunderstanding you? And I don't care about adding it to the head. I'm trying to get more head-light.
^^ Dunlopkid,
The option is there for you to remove your grip and take off the butt-cap. It sucks not to have a trap door, but the option of adding weight inside the handle is still there. Just make sure you have a staple gun so you can put the butt cap back on!

If you do this, save yourself some frustration by placing the weight on the outside of the handle before you take everything apart. Just use regular scotch tape. What this does is allow you to make sure of your balance etc. with everything together so that grip, over grip, butt cap, weight are all included when you're doing your measurements so you know EXACTLY what you're going to end up with when you do actually put the weight under the handle.

Golf stores typically carry lead tape (surprise!). Magnetic tape from the local hardware store is good, too.

If you have a local sporting goods shop with a tennis or golf section there should be some lead packs there.
