View Full Version : Recruiting HS Boys?

Hey guys,

Do you have any ideas on how to recruit freshman and sophomore boys in high school for the tennis team?

Our team is 2 members short of the minimum 11 members required for matches to count as "official"...

If we don't have at least 11 people then our matches dont count even if we win every position....... which is really unfortunate.

All the sophomores last year turned to juniors, so thats what this shortage of members is due to...

I am the assistant coach, but my brother is the #1 Singles player and won conference last year as a Freshman, and I would be upset if he does not have a chance to repeat this year due to lack of players....

Thanks for any advice.

Maybe you could have your brother and his teammates spread the word about the team? If the group of guys involved in the team are a good bunch of kids, maybe that might attract some. If people can put out a good word for the team that it's a welcoming, supportive group of boys that work hard and try their best to improve and win, maybe you'll get a few more guys. If they know that they'll improve and not get made fun of for a lack of skills, and eventually develop a decent game, maybe that's an incentive?

Or maybe just call a few guys up from the JV?

Hmmmmm.... well there is only Fresh/Soph and then Varsity .... so no JV, but I like your other ideas... hopefully we can get some other members!

Well, if there's another team, those kids should be top priority. Take their best players as opposed to recruiting kids who may or may not have even touched a tennis racquet in their lives.
