Another sign that there is a little more depth on the ladies tour. A long way to go to even get close to the men's but it's coming.

I was all set to say something good about Venus and Serena, playing more matches and taking the game more seriously. Then I read the BBC.com story on the match. Venus blaming her loss on 'blisters and my stomach.' Sad. Once I'd like to see one of them say 'I got whipped today. But <opponent's name here> better enjoy this win - won't happen again.'

I don't know what it is that prevents the Williams sisters from being gracious in defeat. I mean, everyone knows that Elia would lose to Venus 9 out of 10 times if not more. But Venus' comments were "she has no weapons to hurt me", "it would normally be a very quick match", "when I saw that my serve was only 76 mph, I saw the humor in the match". Well, she lost in straight sets so there really must be a lot of humor in the results. It is comments like this that cause them so much disrespect on the tour and amoung fans. Just a little humility, even faked, would go a long way.
