The Natural gut, you can use it until it breaks, as it is very playable till the end. It varies greatly between different players how long it will last until it does break, as I am a relatively flat ball hitter, and the strings last a long time for me.

I hit flat a lot too.
Was wondering an average life on all the different strings.

I assume you're not able to tell when the string has lost its "pop" ?

A Multi probably won't last you much longer than gut will - at 3 hours x 4 days a week you're probably looking at a month of use unless you pop it before then. The SynGut I would give another 2-3 weeks or so beyond that. the Poly (PH Tour) should last you quite a while since it's quite a durable string. But how well it plays after a few weeks might make you want to restring it well before it would break. With Gut + Poly the gut is going to break first most likely. You might not get as much use out of the gut when mixed with a poly as you would with a full set of gut.

I started playing last semester and I used the same wooden racket up until it broke about a week ago. The same string, and I only played 1-2 times a week for about 2 hours. Since this semester started I've upped to playing 3 hours a day or so, 4 days a week. Since my racket broke and my elbow started to hurt after using my other woodie, I've been using two extras the teacher brings. So, I haven't played with different strings side by side and consistently for a long period of time.. I have no clue as to how long they should last and what I prefer.

Just wondering how each one differs in life so I can decide what I want to try, and how much it is going to cost me monthly vs the benefits.

Yeah, sounds about right to me. Maybe someone else will chime in with their $0.02.

The only strings that i have found to play for a long time well are natural gut or kevlar. Anything else will not play good for much more than a week.

I think it makes a difference on whether you are a flat hitter or topspin player.Flat hitters seem to be able to play a long time with the same strings.

But if you hit with a lot of topspin the strings will not last long.It doesnt matter to me if i am using multi, poly or syn. gut one week is max. for me. To me there is nothing like new string, after 2-3 times out it is just not the same.

I string once a week at least, depends on how many matches i play that week. For matches that i really care about i use brand new string job or 1-2 times used, after that those string jobs are for practice.

I get a kick out of these guys using polys for a month or two. To me polys go down faster than any string you can use, not counting the arm problems.I have told many of my partners that it is not good to play with old poly string. But they dont believe me until the get te or wrist+shoulder injurys.
