View Full Version : Tension for Thick String Gauge

Had my racquet strung with Gamma Infinity 15L at 48M/50C and played with it this afternoon. Man... was the stringbed stiff. I had very good control, but less power.
I played with the Ashaway Crossfire II 16 previously, strung at 50M/50C. Totally loved the feel. Soft and sweet enough, for me.
Question is, for next restring, what tension should I string the Gamma to make it feel as soft as the Ashaway when strung at 50M/50C? Should I string it at 40M/42C? Help needed.

Actually, will lowering the tension help at all?
How big a head?
Did you allow the strings to settle about 5 lbs. in the next 4 hours?
I"m skinny, old, and weak. I use an Mfil 200 (95 sq in., 12.5 oz strung) with 15 gauge cheapo strings at 62 lbs., 18x20 string pattern, and the ball ZINGS off my racket when I swing.
If your strokes are short, you would prefer softer strings.

Thank you for your reply, LeeD.
Played for 3 hours. Didn't really notice a change in tension though, just felt stiff throughout.
I'm using the K95 btw. And my strokes are long. So do you think lowering the tension would help?

Are you stringing them yourself?
If you are comparing everything--one thing to ensure is that you have the same stringer on the same machine. You would be surprised how much things can vary and feel with different stringers and different machines.

No, not stringing them myself.
It's the same stringer on the same machine.
