What if Federer started playing tennis at age 3, instead of age 8? I think he could be even better than he is now if Federer's parents trained him the way Mike Agassi trained Andre (hand-eye coordination drills before Agassi could even walk). What do you guys think?

I think that then, he would have been drilled to death and would have completely traditional, unimprovised strokes and would hover somewhere around 50th, at best.

That, or he'd burn out and never make it at all.

Or maybe he'd have a two-handed backhand, a western forehand, and be a claycourter.

Or maybe it wouldn't make a difference. Who knows.

In my opinion, at the age of 4, he would have chased an errant ball into the street and tragically been hit by a pickup truck driven by rednecks. As a result he would have developed an aversion to tennis balls(his one weakness) and pursued of a studious life of academics. However, he would have been caught cheating in an astrophysics class at age 21 and been kicked out of Swedish Polytechnic institute of Science. Living on the streets, he would find a new raison d'etre donning a piece meal costume made of scraps of b ir d feathers and spandex, a KFC bucket on his head with cutout eyeholes, then using his remarkable agility and coordination to fight crime at night. Sitting perched on high vantage points looking for evil doers, the man now known as Roger Predator protects the citizens of the city while always wary of his arch enemy the villain known as Henrik the ball boy and his army of sentient Lobster ball machines.

But it's hard to say.

My favorite tennis quote of all time:

Pancho Gonzalez on Agassi: "When I saw him play when he was 3, I didn't think he was gonna be any good."

If Fed started playing at age 3, surely he could beat Lendl at FO and UO finals in 1986.

We can ask a lot of what if question for everything, but the fact of the matter is he didn't. Imo he would have burnt out and probably not have made it big.

Thats like me asking what if I had started playing at the age of 3. I might have had the chance to be better than Federer(in his prime), Agassi(in his prime), and Sampras(in his prime) comined

What if they had artificially inseminated his mother by putting sperm on the end of some Babolat Natural Gut, and sticking it into her? I bet he would lose like 3 points all year.
