Anyone familiar with this wood racquet? And any info on whether it is a collectable racquet or not?
Thanks in advance.

I remember the Mazda GLC...
(In that case, GLC meant 'Great Little Car', I was told...)

Racquet looks very similar to Head/Slaz Vilas racquets. Just that cant find any history on it nor anybody on boards seems to know about it.

Head Edgewood a midsize to mimick the Vilas frame.

Does indeed look like the Edgewood. i have both the Edgewood and the smaller Vilas. For what it's worth, I think the Vilas hits a nicer ball.

Edgewood comes in 2 different mold, one almost smilar to VIlas, and the other one is midplus (Leconte used it)

That GLC..is that for euro market?

Judging by the pics, the racquet appears to be exactly the same as the "Edgewood" model, i.e a mid sized V-24.

Unless someone else have more reliable info, "GLC" is very highly likely to be branded for Euro market as I & racquet is located in Europe.

All I can say it is very nice...and very rare. Is it yours? Congrat and enjoy it.

guess glc stands for: "good looking collar" let's see some close ups of the wood collar pls. Ths ski tip looks to be fully golden. Guys like gymrat and Rorsach are awesome, they remind me of Ion Tiriac, but instead of smuggling and pushing arms and dope they push graphite...."rockstars" of the vintage racquet world!

The Head GLC (and also the VLC) came out in 1982 and like the Vilas, which came out in 1978, is a wood fibreglass composite. I don't think it would have been branded for the European market.

I'd say it would be eminently collectable, as would the VLC. Head brought out only five wood composites - the Edgewood itself, along with the Director Wood came out in 1983. There don't appear to have been any more after that.

...... and then the Head Vector (wood composite), I would say photo to follow, but doubt if anyone will now believe me:)

Ya here I am doin' my thang..trying to push some graphite to a prospective buyer. She was petrified to find an old school vintage stick exactly to her specs!

Well thanks everybody for helping me solve the CSI mystery on the GLC and also thanks to those who are interested to get it. I'll put more pics of the racquet once I get back home for those who enjoy it.

I am not as old school as my above-depicted seller pic suggests. But I enjoy hanging with the crowd who appreciate these woodies type of old school frames, as we all love playing tennis!

O.K woodaholics..here are few pics of the GLC. Head size-wise, it is almost same as a PS85. SW is slightly heavier than a KPS88. It beats the KPS hands down for bh slices..grabs ball like a baseball glove and spits back with a backspin lol. I am no expert on strings yet looks like it has some type of old gut on it. I personally enjoyed few mins I spent hitting with it, more than playing with a V-24, since it has a smaller head and laser-like precision. These wood/graphite composite racquets are really something else...I did not grow up playing w/ woodies, but alimuniums :) but I am starting to appreciate these old skool sticks for sure.....

Can anyone tell me if the Head - Wood Director exists?

If so is it a wood/graphite composite, does anyone have any photos please?

wow, do you think the graphics guy for the head GLC also designed the signage for the old Buck Rogers TV show???

I'd like to thank the actress who played Colonel Wilma Deering (and for that matter the actresses who played Chrissy and Janet on Three's Company) for their indirect assistance in helping me to develop such tenacious wrist and forearm strength as a teen. It was this power which later helped me to excell in tennis and boxing...

and yes Jimbo, a wood Director exists, not a fantasy like my "mission" with col. Deering...

Cheers:)

And sorry Virginia, it's not that I didn't believe you, although you did forget you'd said this:)

I'd really like one of these if anyone has one, any decent condition will do. A Head Director Wood that is, not a Wilma:)
