Not sure if this was covered earlier but why is Nadal only playing doubles in the Davis Cup tie against the Slovak Republic, which seems about to rout the Spaniards?

I think it's because the surface is really fast and he just got back from playing claycourt tournaments. They might put him in on day 3.

the result so far, Slovak winning 2-0...
I think Spain needs a new coach, and they definately need Ferrero and Moya...

Unfortunately they both don't want to play for the team.

Moya's taking a year off from Davis Cup, after winning it for them last year. Ferrero is just starting his comeback and really isn't in DC shape.

Not the coach's fault, I don't see why they need a new coach.

Spain won the Davis Cup last year, and except for the first round, they had the home ad.

And now in the first round, they are playing on a super-fast carpet that doesn't suit any of their players.

So fire the coaches?

A little harsh.

The Slovak Republic has put down a surface that it doesn't suit their games.

And Moya isn't there, for reasons of his own choosing. And the fact that Ferrero isn't there is not a negative, re this tie.

And the surface suits Rafa's game even less than it does Lopez's, and he was blitzed.

If Spain can pull out the doubles, they likely will put Nadal in and hope for a miracle.

Otherwise, it's relegation time.
