I'll be there at least through the doubles, should be a fun one to watch.

Wow, UVA won 4-3. They played the singles first because of a rain delay. Of the 3 singles matches UT lost, they won the first set in all three...in the doubles there were three close matches with #1 doubles winning for UVA 9-7.

It was apparently about as close as a match can get. Texas won 5 first sets in singles but only three matches. Many sets had a player from one school up a break only to lose the break back. For example, Dom Inglot of Virginia was up 5-2 in the first set and 2-0 in the second set and lost in straight sets at #1. Reyes-Varela of Texas was up a set and 6-4 in the second set tiebreaker (after being down a break most of the second set!) but Houston Barrick fought off the two match points and won four in a row for an 8-6 tiebreaker and then won 6-3 in the third set, else Texas would have won the match and doubles would not have been played.

The consensus from the Virginia attendees was that Texas played up to their abilities more than Virginia did, and the match could have gone either way EASILY. Almost the first loss of the year for Virginia.

Oh yeah, one more comment, UVA dropped Singh down to #3 despite the fact that he's 11-0 at line #2, that's kind of lame....

He has been slumping lately. He played up at #1 and lost against Old Dominion. Had a slight shoulder injury when he flew to India to be a Davis Cup practice player before their match with Taiwan.

Virginia does not stack its lineup. But there is not much separating our top three at any one time. Their ITA rankings are almost identical, also.

Well, it was a good win for UVA, Damico fell apart against Singh as he has done a couple of times this season.

Note that in the latest ITA rankings, the top 4 UVa players played in exactly that order against Texas.

15. Dom Inglot
18. Michael Shabaz
23. Sanan Singh
69. Houston Barrick

This is after they played Texas. So, even though Inglot and Shabaz lost to Texas and Singh won, Singh is ranked below them.

By the way, you found out who has the best #6 player in the nation this year in that match.

How's Drew Courtney from UVA? He was one cocky kid who played in my hs district last year.

Playing #6 and undefeated at that position. Did lose a tough match at #5 against Illinois in the very early part of the indoor season. Doing well at #3 doubles as well.

Glad to hear he's facing some competition. In our hs district a year ago, bageling was his job.
