View Full Version : Do any of you 2H backhanders play with a head light racquet?

When I got my first Head Prestige Classic racquet, I did not feel comfortable at all hitting 2 handed backhans because of it's very head light balance.
As soon as I put about 10 grams of leadtape at 3 and 9 O'clock the racquet felt very good.
So I just wonder, if there are any 2h backhand players around who prefer a top light racquet!?

Mine's about 8 pts HL.
I think, in general, the answer to this is a resounding "yes," since most people don't customize their racquets, and most racquets are head light. Most 2HBH'ers probably use HL sticks by default.
I do it by choice, FTR. PT280's, leaded at 3, 9, and under the grip. 13.5 total oz.

I believe I do. I'm using a Head PT 280 coming in at 13.8 ounces and maybe about 10 points headlight. Don't know how headlight, just know it is. Works perfectly fine. Although for me, it seems I can use any racquet for my two-hander, so that might contradict anything I've said. Oh well.

I use a POG 93sqin and its 8pts HL and I think it feels good both ways even though I'm not that good with a one hander. But I feel like when I use a two hander I have to push my own weight into the ball to get a powerful hit where as with a one hander I can generate enough racquet speed where the weight of the racquet plows through the ball.

I think most players with 2-handed backhands use headlight racquets. It's pretty hard to find head heavy racquets anyway and most players don't customize theirs

Maybe my racquet is just 1 or 2 points headlight, but sure not 8 pts, to me that feels aweful, I just cant swing trhu the ball with two hands holding a 'light' feeling racquet.

I use a POG mid, older mid 80's model, and it is about 10 pt HL. I'm also a two handed back hander, all court player. MY pog is heavily customized and weighting over 13 oz.

Yep - Currently hitting with an i.prestige MP and love to drive through my most reliable and solid shot, topspin 2HandedBackhand. Always have used HL racquets as I never feel comfortable with anything more head heavy than even balance.

i put a subject like this just last week.
i have an I.Radical OS that i got dirt cheap..... very low swingweight though. i think it's fairly head-light.
anyhow, playing it without lead tape, i can whip my forehand around easily, not sure of pace but i can really whip the racquet, wait till last second and change direction... but my 2H backhand is awful.
put on a fair amount of lead tape at 3 and 9 and then my 2hB is great but alot of mishits on forehand...
so basically, head light = great forehand, head heavier = great 2HB... wonder if it has to do with hitting early vs. late.....

That's interesting. You would think with the second hand driving the racquet through more, the weight distribution would not be an issue. I have found the balance between differant racquets has most effect on my forehand. I find any, reasonably weighted racquet fine on my backhand, though obviously some still better than others.
I play with both the LM Instinct XL and LM Prestige MP.
Both HL sticks. I have no issue with my 2hande and really
like it on my return of serve.

My SRD 90 is around 6 points head light, its great for 2 handers.
I found head heavy rackets on the 2 handed backhand to be too sluggish.
