I am a high school player who has just returned to tennis after 7 years of not playing. Currently, I am struggling with my backhand ( I am a leftie). Can you guys give me some suggestions on how I should improve it ? What grip do I use ? My problem is that I usually hit it into the net or fly to the sky. I feel really inconfident with my backhand. I have been trying to use slices whenever it comes to my backhand. However, I still want to improve my backhand. I don't want to slice all the time.

Also on forehand, sometimes I hit the ball and the rackets kinda slips out of my hand. I mean not totally but basically it kinda moves.. Does it make sense ? Does it mean I have a wrong grip ?I usually use semi-western or eastern forehand.

Thanks

In terms of the racquet moving in your hand, i found adding some weight to the racquet helped out with twisting.
For the backhand, i try to keep it as simple as possible. I am a right hander and use a two handed backhand. All i do is bring my racquet head straight down and **** my right wrist so i can get plenty of topspin. My left hand on the backhand is a semi-western and the right hand is continential/eastern. Hope that helps a bit.

I am a 2 hander.

1. You've got to move to the optimal position for a comfortable contact point.
(Take a split step after every ball strike by your opponent, and rapidly proceed to your destination, taking small correction steps as you arrive.)
2. Be balanced with the weight on the balls of your feet as you sink into your "crouch" on your backswing. (Don't let your weight get onto your back foot, or this will tilt your forward shoulder up, sending your shot towards the fence.)
3.) Point the butt of the racquet at the oncoming ball.
3.) While your swing patten will be "low to high", and your legs will be pushing up to power the shot, don't let that front shoulder jerk up or down during the swing.
4.) Watch the ball right into the contact point. (You should know exactly where you want your contact point to be, and be able to criticize yourself on every shot as to whether you set up too close or far away, or whether you swung too soon or late. It's up to you to get that positioning and timing down to consistantly perfect.)
Repeat 1.-4.) 1,000 times a day for 10 days, either with an opponent or even against a backboard, and you will begin to see some improvement.

Have you tried to change grip sizes? Add another overgrip to your racket and see if it helps.

I started out with a 2 hander then switched to a 1 hander because my 2 hander was only good if somebody hit hard flat balls to that side. So I'm not the best one to dole out advice on the 2 hander. Good luck.

Thanks guys.

What grip should I use for 2 handed backhand ? I think I have problems with my swing and contact point. How the face of my racket should look like ? should it parallel with the net or should it points down ( I mean the racket is closed, basically).

Is there any wrist twisting at contact ?

If I switch to 1 hand backhand, what grip do I use ?

Any suggestion ?

Also what grip should I use on forehand given that I want to hit with a lot spin but don't want to sacrifice the power ?

I have tried to fix my backhand during yesterday's practice. It is still not consistent. I can hit some really good ball but also a lot of my backhands go into the net. How should I fix this ? hat is my problem ?

Keep practicing. Come back and post in a week or two. If you are having lots of trouble with a stroke don't just practice one day and expect results. Keep after it. If you have a video I'm sure others could help a lot more in critiquing your stroke but just keep after it!~
