Saw her at I Wells, can't take it, we left the match with Safina.

yep :(

You would think the WTA has more finesse and tactical variety because of women's naturally less strength. But instead it's more one-dimensional

I like caroline Wozniaki more than Azarenka they are both wonderful players but caroline seems more humble.

cant believe the amount of people that call them one dimensional when they're probably the same themselves, and probably even worse players...

I remember when Nadal was a "one-dimensional" player and "sucked on hard courts."

In D Zone
04-03-2009, 08:41 AM
one dimensional ? but playing sucessfully and moving up in ranking.

SO they say with Nadal on hard court. Then SHA_ZAAM! Nadal game blossomed from one dimensional into mulit -talented play.

Case in Point - knowing how to make the best of a skill and is/was successful shows that there is still more up side to the person's skill to even go higher.

To be a top ten player - you got to have that swagger and the confidence that you are the best. It may come across as arrogant as many have mentioned, but its more on bringing that belief and focus when you are in the court. Players like Sampras, Federer or Nadal are great as masking it but deep down inside they are just as hungry as the next guy on the court. Ready to go and take no prisoners. That's why people are unique - some wear their emotions on their sleeves like Djokovic and Azakenka.

May be this the reason why Jankovic can't win a Slam - is always puts a smile in her face! SAY CHEESE!

She's focused, gives 100%, is not a pusher like Woz, and is entertaining as anyone. What's not to like.

she does wats needed to win, and so far it has worked pretty well...the amount of posters who call ppl one dimensional are probably the same themselves, and even worse players...reminds me of 'chris_in_japan' who claimed to be good, called ppl names and when i saw his vid, was shanking everything and couldnt even run to the ball...as for azarenka, i think she will reach top 5 this yr, if ppl like ivanovic and etc keep falling...shes also very good looking and i'll be rooting for her :P

Such haters here....

She works hard, hits flat and deep accurate groundies, her backhand is solid, likes coming to the net, and she slayed the evil Serena in her own back yard....

So she grunts. Who doesn't? Look up Nadal Federer Dubai final on youtube and tell me who is a grunter. She's figured out how to make and win finals, she can only get better, in the top 10 dusting off underachievers occupying those spots, and she's a fresh face for the WTA.

aza's "grunt" sounds to me exactly like the "grunt" of elena dementieva, but at the moment i cant remember whether elena does it on every stroke. azarenka does it on every stroke, which to me seems unnecessary and therefore annoying. because of that, for me, it's difficult to watch her play.

TRue. But you must admit. Serena played like a pile of Teradecto ****. She couldn't move and didn't have her balance because of her knee causing her to miss a **** load of tennis balls :). Other than that congradulations to Azarenka just dont expect to win against a healthier more fit serena.

Well Jelena had her moments and beat Serena several times, once on GS 6-3 6-2 (Venus too including Wimbledon). She is 8-8 vs Williams sisters H2H, but she is in big trouble now.

It got boring when Seles got stabbed and Steffi was winning 2-3 slams a year while Seles was out. If anything, Graf and Seles are the alpha mommies for the ball-bashing that rules the landscape on the WTA.

Will this occur after her illegal substance abuse ban or before? :)

Azarenka is a much more complete player than Sharapova and she continues to develop variation in her game. She's won a number of doubles titles, including two GS mixed doubles. She's also made ladies' GS doubles finals a couple of times.

Give her a break, she's 19 years old and is just coming into her own.

Yes, enough with the grunting complaints already. This is sport. It's natural and beneficial to make noise when hitting the ball hard, as it's conducive to breathing out at the right time. Bollitieri even coaches it.

What next, are we going to ask the NFL players to play in silence?

I compared asking for silence in tennis (a sport) to asking for silence in American Football (another sport), to show - by reductio ad absurdum - that the request is unreasonable.

If she can keep up this form, she could have a very promising future ahead of her. But then again there was a time when players like Vaidisova and Chakvetadze were hailed as the future of tennis and eventual multiple slam winners, and couldn't live up to it. So I think I'll just keep an eye on her for now and not hype her too much.

Point taken... however, the women in the WTA also towel off after virtually every point, too.

The hand 'wiping' the air in front of the eyes is the latest sign language on court when a towel off is desired.

The star on the rise is out with a shoulder injury.

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Victoria Azarenka has withdrawn from the Family Circle Cup.

In a statement released by tournament officials Tuesday, Azarenka said she has an injured right shoulder and regrets not being able to attend. She did not offer details on the injury.

Azarenka reached a career-high ranking of No. 8 in the world this week after beating top-ranked Serena Williams on Saturday to win the Sony Ericsson Open in Florida.

Williams, Venus Williams and No. 3-ranked Elena Dementieva are among those slated to take part in the Charleston tournament. Dementieva is the defending champ.

Qualifying play for the tournament begins Saturday.
