Did you realize that 3 of your 5 "inspirational" quotes are taken from sports shoe company ads? I think you can do better than that. Go pick yourself up a Bartlett's and look up something that a real person said, not an advertising exec.

Yeah, ditto. They are good, especially the adidas one, but the real inspirational stuff comes from athletes not marketing exec's. Quotes from people like Ali etc....

Meaning of love by Agent Smith: ... love, illusions Mr Anderson, vagaries of perception, temporary constructs of a febel human intelect trying desperatly to justify an existence that is without meaning or purpose and all of them as artifical as the matrix itself, although only a human mind can invent something as insipit as love.

Not very inspirational, but I get it. Here's Merovingian (the French guy) with one of my faves:

Well we gotta quote somebody we all respect! Sir Patrick Rafter himself :P

The following Pat quotes are taken from the great fan site linked below. Feel free to dispute or acknowledge my interpretations. :)

Modesty:

"Would you complain if chicks wanted to go after you? It's nice
having that image. I remember when women wouldn't look twice at
me."

Frugality:

"Money is nice, but I came into tennis thinking that if I can
buy a two-bedroom home, I'm ahead of 90 percent of the people in
the world."

How he stays grounded:

"With eight brothers and sisters, you can't have much
arrogance."

Live with what God gave you:

"You try and get the most out of what you're given, and you have to enjoy the moment."

"Yah I know I"m a major chick magnet, I just hate drawing attention to it.":

"'Good looking' is the sort of term that I don't particularly
like,I try to never give myself encouragement like that."

Find a career that you enjoy and makes you happy (help on the big picture part):

"I think if you're happy in your work, I think you're happy in
life. But if you put it in the big picture, I'm still very happy."

Take a loss by indulging yourself:

"I had a day off -- I sat down and ate rubbish and watched
cricket on television," After his loss to Lleyton Hewitt in the
Adidas International.

Importance of friendship:

"Mates are important. Very Australian. True-blue." on what is
important in life

Reduce the fist pumps instead of learning more sophiticated types of
arrogance *cough* hewitt *gag*:

"All I know is it's a big learning experience, life is, and
you've got to try to be a good person, and be a better person
tomorrow." On his success in tennis

Have an open mind and a sense of humour:

"I've done them all. Everything except for cults." on his religious followings

Live by the sword, die by the sword:

"Then I said 'Stuff That' and went back to what I did best" on
his short go at being a baseline player

Nobody's perfect:

"I think I do the right thing most of the time. But I've egged
people's cars and thrown rocks at their roofs."

Don't respect the disrespectful:

"Lately I've given up saying nice things about Pete. A few of
his comments have come across as arrogant to me. We won't be
having a beer together." on Pete Sampras's unneccessarily rude
comments towards him

It's healthy to express some anger when appropriate: :)

"About 20 minutes before that match I got fed up and said 'Who
the hell am I playing?'" On the U.S. attempt to replace Todd
Martin with Pete Sampras at the Davis Cup

Nice guys can finish first:

"Being No. 1 is great, but the fact that I'm able to annoy Pete
is even better." On passing Pete Sampras for the no. 1 seed on
the ATP tour (Later said he was taken out of context...but it's
still funny!)

I read somewhere that Lance Armstrong is a bonafide mutant! There's something in his genes that makes his metabolism extraordinarily efficient in that he doesn't get tired. When he was a kid he'd keep on playing on the playground and whatnot. So he would bike for hours and hours never getting tired. Life's not fair. The other cyclists have to compete against a mutant. I keep a little list (Now a long list) of quotes, lyrics and movie lines that I have read or heard that I like. Doesn't take long to write them down, and it's helpful to look back at some of them later.

Mutants exist in sci fi flicks. Lance is a very good, or great athlete, blessed with some of the physical attributes that great athletes possess, and FURTHER ENHANCED by DRUGS. To find a similiarity see one "Barry Bonds". You take an athlete who is already superior and then pump him full of designer drugs, and you get a "super" athlete-someone who performs way off the charts of all who came before him.

We were joking. We know about The Prince. Machiavelli's work was NOT written to explain political Darwinism. Think about that for a second. More likely, Darwin explained natural selection in a machiavellian framework.

Okay, the purpose of that piece wasn't TO EXPLAIN political Darwinism (per se) but it does give a lot of insight into the workings of politics and why full-fledged democracies (ruled by the people) are non-existant today.

I know there are different interpretations to this guy's work and you still might not agree with my point but I just wanted to clarify my original post.

BTW, are you using a chicken-egg argument in your last sentence? (Darwin being born after Machiavelli) Otherwise, I don't see much of Machiavelli in Darwin's evolution theory but I do see visa versa.
