Is this graphite?

It is--pretty much the same. Carbon fiber is graphite fiber. Carbon fiber is all fibers that consist of elemental carbon. They are used interchangeably, but PAN-based carbon fibers are about 95% maximum carbon whereas graphite fibers are on the plus side of 99% carbon. Remember, the higher the graphite content, the higher the elastic modulus but the lower the strength. This is the rationale for additional materials, additives, or particular orientation of the fiber in racquets made from high modulus graphite. Modulus is the stiffness property of a material. It's really more complex than this, but this should add some clarity to the answer--at least I hope it does.

Also, carbon fiber or carbon fibre: six of one, half dozen...

This is the short explanation. Hope it helps.

Thanks...I just wanted to ensure that is was predominantly graphite.
